Manufacturer: Women's Press (CA)
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Paperback
ASIN: Book Description Set in North America and Japan, Exile and the Heart weaves beautiful stories of women of the diaspora negotiating love, identity, and friendship against a moving landscape of memory, history and home. Gen Tanaka and Kathy Nakashima slowly piece together the fragments of their lives, naming their exiles, tracking their journeys, making the connections of who they are, and what that means. In a world of racism and homophobia, Kobayashi's characters carve a cautious home of tenderness and resilience. Exile and the Heart is a passionate and musical tale sparkling with clarity and freshness. Customer Reviews: A beautifully written series of interlocked stories about a small group of women, all either friends, family, or exlovers. Kobayashi evokes in a sort of poetic fire clearly the sometimes joyful, sometimes painful ties people have with each other. Even though the characters are women and most are lesbians, the overall story can clearly portray parallels in any family unit, whether chosen or hereditary. Resonates along with Sarah Schulman's "Rat Bohemia" or Alison Bechdel's series "Dykes to Watch out for".

      Co-author, Monika Oikawa.
      Toronto: Sister Vision, 1992.
      Publisher's Synopsis
All Names Spoken is an arresting and diverse collection. Extremely provocative and uninhibited, it's pages shimmer with beautiful imagery and sensual, sexy eroticism. The partnership and compatibility of Kobayashi's and Oikawa's writing is made all the more effective by their difference of style and perception. This has resulted in the book's rich and affective texture, a wonderful gathering of complimentary individuality.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search For other uses, see Taiko (disambiguation) Taiko drummers in Aichi , Japan Taiko means " drum " in Japanese (etymologically "great" or "wide drum"). Outside Japan , the word is often used to refer to any of the various Japanese drums (和太鼓, wa-daiko , "Japanese drum", in Japanese) and to the relatively recent art-form of ensemble taiko drumming (sometimes called more specifically, kumi-daiko (組太鼓)). The performances can last between 5 and 25 minutes and typically follow a jo-ha-kyū (beginning, middle, end/rapid, sudden, urgent, and emergency) structure, which means the performance will speed up significantly towards the grand finale.
