85. Eliphas Levi
Brief biography of Levi.
http://www.satanic-kindred.org/eliphas.htm
Eliphas Levi Eliphas Levi (1810 - 1875) The pseudonym of Alphonse Louis Constant, a French occultist who was largely responsible for the revival of interest in magic in the 19th century. Levi studied magic and believed in it but was more of a commentator than and adept, though he did claim to practice necromancy on several occasions. Constant was born in Paris, the son of a shoe maker. He was bright and quick and sent to the church at St. Sulpice for education. He was intrigued by magic and the occult, and the headmaster's belief that animal magnetism, the vital energy of the human body, was controlled by the devil only incited his curiosity. Nevertheless, he pursued an ecclesiastical career and became a priest. He was thrown out of the church for his left-wing political writings and because he could not observe his vow of chasity. His writings earned him three short jail sentances. Constant was attracted an eccentric old man named Ganneau, who claimed to be a prophet and the reincarnation of Louis XVII.(Ganneau's wife believed she was the reincarnation of Marie Antoinette.) Constant became one of Ganneau's followers and was drawn deeper into the world of magic and the occult. In 1846 he married Noemie Cadot, who was no older than 18. They had one daughter who died very young. The marriage disintigrated in 1853 and was annuled in 1865.

Levi Eshkol
Levi Eshkol was born in 1895 in the Ukrainian village of Oratovo (near Kiev). He had a traditional Jewish upbringing and education which continued when he entered a Hebrew high school in Vilna at the age of 16 and joined the Zionist group, " Tzeirei Tzion " (Youth of Zion). In 1914, at the age of 19, he came to Palestine, then still a part of the Ottoman Empire, where he worked as an agricultural laborer and political activist.
During World War I, he volunteered for the Jewish Legion of the British Army, and joined the group which founded the settlement of Degania Beth.
Eshkol later worked in the Histadrut Labor Federation's Agricultural Center. He participated in the establishment of " Mekorot ," Israel's water utility, in 1937, and served as its chief executive until 1951.
In 1951 Eshkol was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Development and from 1952 until 1963 he served as Minister of Finance. He remained Chairman of the WZO/JAFI Settlement Department until 1963. Eshkol is largely responsible for obtaining funds to develop the country, absorb massive immigration waves and equip the army.
In June 1963, Eshkol assumed the post of Prime Minister. The high point of his premiership was the Six Day War of June 1967. When Egypt and Syria precipitated the crisis, Eshkol established a Government of National Unity, relinquishing the Defense portfolio to Moshe Dayan and bringing Menachem Begin of Herut into the Cabinet.

My Dear Wife, Children, Father, Mother
I once more take the opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know that I am well and have been in good health since I left you. The boys are all well as common except J.C. Tumer who has been very sick, but is now recovering We have traveled 1,000 miles on steamboat. I have been in several states since I left you. We first went from Kentucky to the Ohio River. Crossed the river and went through Ohio, thence, 64 miles up the Kanawa River into Virginia. We stayed there 12 days, then march back to the Ohio River, then got on a boat and went down the river. We passed the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas and are now camped in the State of Tennessee. I have seen a great deal of good land since I left home, but I have become satisfied if I live to be discharged and get back home to spend the balance of my days in Jackson County, Kentucky. I will proceed to give the reason for being satisfied to live in as poor county as Jackson County. In passing through the State of Ohio, I saw the happiest people I ever saw anywhere living on poorer land than there is in Jackson County. They had their farms fenced off in four or five acre lots sown in grass, clover, wheat, rye, etc. and were living good. They had well painted framed houses, with stables for their stock. They done their own work and each spoke well of each other.
