    November :)
November 2nd, 2010 Hey everyone 1 month and 24 days till Christmas. October was an awesome month. I was fortunate enough to attend the BC Country Music Awards, in Vancouver at the prestigious Red Robinson Theatre. We had the privilege of working with Angela Kelman and Tom Jackson. Congratulations to everyone that won awards that weekend. The highlight of October was opening for the legendary Dan Hill, in Comox,BC. Opening for Dan Hill was probably won of the most exciting things I have done in my career yet!!! I’ll put a link to Dan Hill’s Website at the bottom so check it out!! And if you get a chance to pick up his book “My Fathers Son” its his autobiography…. It is a great read!!!! I just got back from Vancouver. I was there only for a day, a very quick trip to meet with Tom McKillip of McKiller Music, and of course his awesome wife and amazing songwriter Lynda McKillip. We were down there just working on my new CD…. Go check out “Standing Strong and True” in support of the troops. Lynda McKillip, Tom McKillip and Ron Irving wrote the song. Tom himself produced this song, along with Kevin Churko. Please check it out!!!!! Look for the CMT video and support our Troops. Big thanks to Barry Stecyk, for his vision. I got a couple events in the month of November !!!! It is gonna be a busy yet exciting month J

T. LIVIUS Course Expectations and Objectives We will read the excerpts from Livy's Ab Urbe Condita , focusing closely on the grammar, vocabulary, and style of the assigned texts, with only occasional comment on the historical and social background. The student is expected to have mastered a basic second year vocabulary and to be prepared to absorb a considerable quantity of new vocabulary. Complete familiarity with basic forms (declension patterns, pronouns, verb tenses, infinitives, and participles) is required. Livy's style varies considerably. At times he is quite florid, rivaling Cicero in periodic structures; at others he is straightforward, even plain, as befits an historian of military affairs. As with all authors, the style and vocabulary become more easily absorbed as the work progresses. We will move slowly at first, more quickly as the semester progresses. Students are expected to have prepared the assigned text well enough to read it with minimal difficulty and discuss grammatical constructions. Our goals are to read with reasonable ease the passages assigned and to articulate a basic understanding of Livy's historical aims and general worldview. The work required is considerable, the rewards commensurate. Our Texts The excerpts are available on-line in pdf format, with grammatical commentary. We will

Livy
Titus Livius (59 BC-AD 17) is among the more important Roman historians. He lived most of his life in Rome where he had a prominent education and studied diligently. It was suggested that Livy was a major source of encouragement for the future Emperor Claudius in his historical studies.
Livy's life work, the History of Rome from its founding, is a richly detailed account of Rome's early history. Livy, however, was filled with Roman patriotism and painted a romantic view of the ancient world. His sources were mainly the writings of earlier authors and word of mouth legends of the day. Unfortunately, while he paints one of the few existing ancient source pictures of ancient Rome, lack of careful evaluation of his sources make some facts disputable. Regardless, the description of early legendary Rome, as well as the complete work, is a lasting and supremely important testament to Roman history. Living in the time of Augustus, later historians, such as Tacitus labeled him as a Republican sympathizer, but unfortunately, Livy's books covering this period have not survived. Works:
Ab Urbe Condita
(From the Founding of the City) written in 142 books.

October 25, 2008 tags: Aeneas Aeneid bibliography Classics ... Virgil by Andreas Kluth I left off my series on the bibliography for my book with a long post on Polybius all of Polybius available to him, as well as other sources lost to us, such as Roman documents. Aeneas flees burning Troy In general, Livy always makes the Romans look good and their enemies look bad. So the Gauls are unreliable and lazy brutes. The Greeks are savvy but slimy know-it-alls. The Carthaginians are either cruel or cunning or miserly or deceitful. Much of Livy is propaganda. Awfully entertaining propaganda, as it happens. So if Polybius clearly emulated his fellow Greek Thucydides in trying to stay close to facts and analysis, Livy takes Herodotus as his example and embellishes and invents freely for the sake of a cracking good read. At that, he succeeds. When the Europeans woke up at the end of the Middle Ages and rediscovered the classics, Livy became one of their favorites.

    A seafaring challenge
Womans trip on Columbus ships makes novel come alive
    By Dan Parker
    Caller-Times
File photo For each copy of Challenge the Wind sold, the author will donate up to $7.50 to Operation Phoenix a local effort to fix up the citys three Columbus ship replicas. For three years, Christine Echeverria Bender pored over historical records while working on a novel about Columbus, his crew and their first trans-Atlantic voyage.
But some of her most important research came when she took a day-long cruise a few years ago through Corpus Christi Bay, aboard one of the citys Columbus ship replicas.
That experience was absolutely huge as far as making the book more realistic, said Bender, who lives in Boise, Idaho. To actually have the feel of that ship was what was missing. I actually got to pull on the lines and went down in the hold and got to be involved not just as an observer.
Thursday through Saturday, Bender will visit Corpus Christi to do signings for her book, Challenge the Wind, which was published on a wide scale for the first time in August. It is her first published novel.
