AUTHORS ON THE WEB
A Collection of Biographical Sketches
This page is an attempt to bring together literary author biographies available on the World Wide Web. The biographies vary in quality, timeliness, length, and authority. If you don't find a biography here and know of one, please send it along. If there is no biography available, write one and send it along. It will take time for this page to become one of substance. And, in keeping with the beauty of the medium, it will continually grow and change. Credit for this page must go to Dr. Gretchen Whitney at The University of Tennessee where I was a graduate student in the School of Information Science . Dr. Whitney's "dead German" assignment gave me inspiration for this page. She also taught me HTML. She may have created a monster. Last revised: August 17, 2002. As a new dimension to this page, I am attempting to locate biographies on Nobel Prize winners in Literature. Those I include will include a notation, (Nobel, year). Much of the information for this portion comes from The Nobel Prize Internet Archive

Barry Golden, Partner, Gardere, Wynne, Sewell, LLP Our Writers at Work One of the goals of The Writer's Garret is to provide wide exposure and gainful opportunities for writers, especially those living and working in our state. 95% of our writers come from Texas, and since 1994, we have paid over $1.5 million in honoraria, promotion, travel, and direct programming support of their talents through publications, readings, classes, school programs, editing projects, contests, and more. In exchange, these writers have helped create a literary community unlike any other in North Texas. So, we want to thank everyone who has taught a master class, inspired youth and children to read and write, led a panel, designed a flyer, hosted an event, developed grade school curricula, judged a contest, stuffed an envelope, or helped out in the myriad ways that help us spread the word. We certainly couldn't do it without you!

A writer is someone who writes. An author is someone who is paid for writing. The Internet has been an excellent way for both both writers and authors to "get the word out" and offer their work to an audience of readers. These are the Web sites of some of the best of the writers and authors that I've discovered on the Web and whose work I would recommend.
