The Story of Hyacinth and Roseblossom
Novalis
O His parents were greatly grieved; they did not know what to do. He was healthy and ate well. His parents had never hurt his feelings, nor until a few years since had any one been more cheerful and lively than he; always he had been at the head of every game, and was well liked by all the girls. He was very handsome indeed, looked like a picture, danced beautifully. Among the girls there was one sweet and very pretty child. She looked as though she were of wax, with hair like silk spun of gold, lips as red as cherries, a figure like a little doll, eyes black as the raven. Such was her charm that whoever saw her might have pined away with love. At that time Roseblossom, that was her name, cherished a heart-felt affection for the handsome Hyacinth, that was his name, and he loved her with all his life. The other children did not know it. A little violet had been the first to tell them; the house-cats had noticed it, to be sure, for their parents' homes stood near each other. When, therefore, Hyacinth was standing at night at his window and Roseblossom at hers, and the pussies ran by on a mousehunt, they would see both standing, and would often laugh and titter so loudly that the children would hear them and grow angry. The violet had confided it to the strawberry, she told it to her friend, the gooseberry, and she never stopped taunting when Hyacinth passed; so that very soon the whole garden and the goods heard the news, and whenever Hyacinth went out they called on every side: "Little Roseblossom is my sweetheart!"

(With Color Blooms the Meadow Green), by Novalis
Translation by Leon Malinofsky
With color blooms the meadow green;
Upon the hedgerows buds are seen,
And daily I remarked new flow'rings
On soft bright days of heavenly show'rings.
I knew not, how it came to me,
Nor how all this had come to be. And ever darker the wood grew,
The realm of merry warblers, too
Their carols drew me down the ways
Where tuneful sound in sweet mist plays. I knew not, how it came to me, Nor how all this had come to be. It stirred and flowered all around With color, life, and scent, and sound They seemed all gladly to combine That lovely visions might be mine. I knew not, how it came to me, Nor how all this had come to be. I thought then: doth a ghost awake, Who all things so alive doth make And with a thousand blooming wares His very soul before us bares? I knew not, how it came to me, Nor how all this had come to be. Is this then a new empire's birth? The bushes spring from crumbly earth; The trees in turn take creatures' guise

Georg Friedrich Philipp von Hardenberg [Novalis]
First published Thu May 21, 2009 The philosophical impact of early German romanticism in general and Georg Philipp Friedrich von Hardenberg (Novalis) in particular has typically been traced back to a series of fragments and reflections on poetry, art, and beauty. Moreover, his name has been associated with an aestheticization of philosophy, an illegitimate valorizing of the medieval, and a politically reactionary program. This view of von Hardenberg, however, is to a large extent rooted in the image created posthumously by his increasingly conservative friends within the romantic circle. Furthermore, von Hardenberg's philosophical reputation has been shaped by his critics, the most prominent of whom was Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. Hymns to the Night (1800) and the unfinished novels The Apprentice from Said and Heinrich von Ofterdingen

Novalis
In late Autumn of 1971, bass player Heino Schnzel from the band Marquis and singer Jrgen Wenzel put an ad in a Hamburg daily: "Looking for drummer and organ player for new rock band." Hartwig Biereichel, who had played with Greenlight until 1970, and Lutz Rahn from jazz-rock group Capricorn replied to the ad, and when the new band played their first gig in the Fabrik in Hamburg in 1972, they were present on stage as well. The quartet called itself Novalis after the most important German poet of early romanticism. Their music, a heavy organ rock, was compared to the sounds of bands such as King Crimson and Pink Floyd On " Banished Bridge Novalis played romantic rock without using electric guitars. Classic leitmotifs were dominated by the rich sound of playful keyboards while Jrgen Wenzel wrote and sang complex English lyrics showing a lot of fantasy. " Banished Bridge " made the music world sit up and notice. It also underlined the intention of the Brain label to remove the 'shady' Krautrock image from the new German rock music. For the release of their debut album
