O'Brien, Fitz-James. "Dramatic Feuilleton." New York Saturday Press . 25 Dec. 1858: 3. Type: newspaper ; Genre: theater criticism
    Abstract
O'Brien discusses the state of American "national drama" and discourages playwrights from attempting this genre. He encourages American dramatists to focus on "domestic drama" because of their plot-based nature. O'Brien aruges that American society lacks sufficiently interesting character types and feels that character-driven plays are unsuccessful dramatic efforts.
