Chapter 3
Proclus' Elements
The book is Proclus' Elements of Theology . By 1017 this fifth-century text had likely made its way to Dar al-Hikma. It would have been slotted in the cabinet beside its more popular (and pseudonymous) abridgment, (Aristotle's) Discourse on the Pure Good , later known as the Book of Causes The Elements of Theology Elements may be the most orderly proof of immortality ever composed by a Hellenic philosopher. In this essay I will present a few Elements which abstract Proclus' argument. This presentation will pass quickly to a critique. The critique brings Proclus' image of the soul into focus, as it disentangles the knot of his immortality argument. We take up the seamed volume. Leather opens to paper, paper opens to words. The text of Proclus' Elements consists of two hundred and eleven Neoplatonic propositions, organized by a method similar to that which mathematicians use in the construction of mathematical proofs. When a mathematician wants to prove a novel theorem, he uses in his proof theorems which have been proved before. Those axioms are foundational, in the sense that they are uncontroversial and accepted as authoritative by the mathematical community.

What am I doing here! My grandfather, Deloy F. Harrington, must have asked this central question many times as he cleaned the milkman's septic tank to pay the milk bill during the Great Depression. Need it be said that this dirty digging was not his vocation? He was a welder, and what we might call today, a materials expert. He was also a missionary, a scout master, and finally, a Mormon bishop. To my knowledge, neither he, nor any of his family before him had any formal college education. Yet, he had a sort of ingenious independence and an upward looking nobility which still inspires me. Perhaps this was because of his ancestry. His grandparents were among those intrepid pioneers who crossed the plains and settled Utah's Salt Lake Valley.
My parents separated when I was seven years old. Through the childhood of my two brothers and myself, grandpa was really quite a father figure for us. We would go camping and fishing, and talk about our futures, ethics, and God. His wife, Lorna Evans was a wonderful grandmother

Early Geometry
Proclus Diadochus, AD 410-485.
(From his book: Commentary on Euclid's Elements I
It was Thales, who, after a visit to Egypt, first brought this study to Greece. Not only did he make numerous discoveries himself, but laid the foundation for many other discoveries on the part of his successors, attacking some problems with greater generality and others more empirically. After him Mamercus the brother of the poet Stesichorus, is said to have embraced the study of geometry, and in fact Hippias of Elis writes that he achieved fame in that study.
After these Pythagoras changed the study of geometry, giving it the form of a liberal discipline, seeking its first principles in ultimate ideas, and investigating its theorems abstractly and in a purely intellectual way.
[He then mentions several who developed this abstract approach further: Anaxagoras, Hippocrates, Theodorus, etc.]
Plato, who lived after Hippocrates and Theodorus, stimulated to a very high degree the study of mathematics and of geometry in particular because of his zealous interest in these subjects. For he filled his works with mathematical discussions, as is well known, and everywhere sought to awaken admiration for mathematics in students of philosophy.
[He then lists several mathematicians, including Eudoxus and Theatetus, who discovered many new geometric theorems, and began to arrange them in logical sequences-this process culminated in the work of Euclid, called his

The Radical Mormon was founded in 1999 by Michael L. Love for and on behalf of the mutantRM's group , and it was the outer organ for this group for some time. The ideas expressed in this publication did not come out of nowhere, and they were hatched and sprouted in discussions within the mutantRM's group, and as well, the foundations were laid decades before. There are many many people to thank, and some of them are mentioned in the FAQ . As for the editor, Michael has been publishing on the web with great enthusiasm since 1998, and there is a huge collection of materials across many different arenas of endeavor that can be directly attributed to his efforts. Here are some links related to the Radical Mormon editor and/or the mutantRM's group. If you would like to see your link here, please contact us . If you are reading this, it is likely that you deserve a link, but please check first that your organization is not already found in the right sidebar of the

Proclus - Definition
Proclus Lycaeus ( February 8 April 17 ), surnamed "The Successor" ( Greek ), was a Greek Neoplatonist philosopher Born to a rich family in Constantinople , he studied rhetoric philosophy and mathematics in Alexandria of Egypt . He came back to Constantinopole and was a successful lawyer for a short time. However as he preferred philosophy, he went to Athens in to study at the famous Academy which was founded 800 years before by Plato . He lived in Athens until the end of his life, except for a one year exile due to his political-philosophical activity which was not tolerated by the Christian regime. He became head master of Athens' School of Philosophy. His work can be divided in two parts. In the first part are his Memorandi on Plato's works, the first written when he was 28 years old: The Memorandum on Timaeus, on Plato's Republic , on Plato's Alcibiades , on Plato's Parmenides and on Plato's Cratylus. In these works, Proclus analyzes and restates Plato's thought - much misinterpreted and distorted at the time. The second part is theological: Theologia Platonica, Chrestomatheia, Hymni, Epigrammata

Some combinations of fruits and vegetables seem to me to release an explosion of tartness in the mouth that is really exciting and unparalleled. One of the best tart explosion foods may be grapes, which apparently have the biochemical ability to release trapped sulfates and carboxylate molecules to make acid right in the mouth. There are few culinary surprises that can match the delight of this flavor explosion, and I discovered today that grapefruit is well able to produce it in combination with grapes.
Even more wonderful is the fact that these two foods are among the most healthful that are available, grapes for the resveratrol and other polyphenolic compounds, and grapefruits for their beneficial chalcones and flavonoid molecules, such as naringenin. Please read further in the blog for more ideas about how to better access this excellent nutrition, which has demonstrated anti-viral, cancer-fighting, and general anti-aging properties. There are recipies and scientific articles to help with your life enhancement project.

Proclus and his On the Sacred Art
Introduction
On the Sacred Art This work, like On the Signs of Divine Possession, is an extract from a lost work of Proclus Diadochus (412-485 AD), which is almost certainly his compendious Commentary on the Chaldean Oracles. This text, On the Sacred Art has been translated from the edition of the Greek text published by Joseph Bidez in his Catalogue des manuscrits alchimiques Grecs VI Sacred Art De sacrificio et magia Opera On the Mysteries On the Mysteries On the Sacred Art. But I had been preceded by Brian Copenhaver who translated and commented on it in his Hermes Trismegistus, Proclus, and a Philosophy of Magic
