Vi sono per delle eccezioni nel panorama artistico che lasciano sbigottiti: uno di questi il caso di Rimbaud. LA POESIA Proprio l’indipendenza delle immagini la caratteristica fondamentale del suo stile, parole che comunicano indipendentemente dal loro legame con i verbi o gli aggettivi, e che si caricano di significati plurimi; Rimbaud oltre che a mettere a disagio il lettore privandolo della chiave di lettura pi logica e accessibile, aggrava la sua situazione artificiandosi per farsi notevolmente ambiguo in modo che nella sua mente si formino possibilit e non certezze, immagini e impressioni mai confermate, esse cos fluttuano indipendenti come le parole che le descrivono. A rincarare ancor di pi la dose del suo "astio" nei confronti del lettore, vi la straordinaria capacit di schernirlo, come ad esempio in "Parata" dove conclude recitando: "Solo io possiedo la chiave di questa parata selvaggia".

Era nato a Charleville, una cittadina delle Ardenne adagiata sulle sponde della Mosa; a Charleville aveva anche trascorso senza troppi patemi la propria infanzia nonostante sin dal 1860 il padre si fosse allontanato da casa e avesse cos lasciato l'intero destino della famiglia nelle ferme e energiche mani della moglie Vitalie; a scuola poi, da autentico enfant prodige , aveva iniziato a dieci anni a comporre esametri latini per trovarsi a quindici coperto di riconoscimenti e di premi. Che quella sua precoce e straordinaria intelligenza gli attirasse la diffidenza e l'antipatia di molti non lo preoccupava pi di tanto: Arthur Rimbaud aveva infatti dalla sua parte anche persone, come il suo professore di retorica Izambard, disposte a capirlo e ad incoraggiarlo e sapeva soprattutto di poter contare sul proprio spirito di indipendenza per tagliare al momento debito i ponti con la sua cittadina natale. Del resto pur cos giovane, in cuor suo aveva gi emesso un'inappellabile sentenza nei confronti del piccolo mondo borghese dell'atroce Charlestown, la ville superio-rement idiote entre les petites villes de province ; e di quella sentenza avrebbe dovuto fornire una prima formulazione fuggendo di casa, alla volta di Parigi, non ancora sedicenne nell'agosto 1870.
