1908 - Theodore Roethke, Theodore Huebner Roethke born on the 25th of May in Saginaw, Michigan, U.S. American poet whose verse is characterized by introspection and intense lyricism. Roethke was educated at the University of Michigan and Harvard University. He taught at several colleges and universities, notably the University of Washington. His later career was interrupted by hospitalizations for manic depression.
1948 - 1951 - The first book was followed by The Lost Son and Other Poems and Praise to the End!
1953 - The Waking: Poems was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for poetry.
1957 - Words for the Wind won a Bollingen Prize and a National Book Award.
1963 - Died on the 1st of August in Bainbridge Island, Washington.
1964 - Won a second National Book Award for The Far Field.
1964 - 1965 - His collected poems were published. His essays and lectures are collected in his On the Poet and His Craft. Page last updated: 12:10pm, 14
