She published her first novel Irene Iddesleigh at her own expense in 1897. She wrote poetry and a number of novels. Her works were not read widely, and her eccentric, over-written, "purple" circumlocutory writing style is alleged by some critics to be some of the worst prose and poetry ever written.

A Shrine to the late-lamented Amanda McKittrick Ros
Amanda McKittrick Ros was the writer of three peerless romantic novels as well as dozens of singular works of verse. Acclaimed in her lifetime by such notables as D. B. Wyndham Lewis, Mark Twain, James Agate, Aldous Huxley and Anthony Powell, she is nowadays largely forgotten. These few pages are dedicated to her life and works, with the fervent wish that she be restored post-haste to her rightful place in the literary canon. EXCITING NEWS! NEW : Amanda's books tend to be expensive to obtain: with that in mind I have prepared a pauper's guide to collecting her works If any follower of the trade of critic should ever read these pages, let him learn what happened to Donald Dudley, the Bastard Critic , and shudder trepidatiously. You may read a letter in Amanda's hand to a man who had ordered a copy of Irene Iddesleigh With or without trousers? That rare volume St. Scandalbags unveils the naked truth. In his new book Nick Page reckons Amanda is the Worst of the Worst! Euphues Redivivus Aldous Huxley's essay about Amanda is restored to its rightful place on these pages.

    Amanda McKittrick Ros
Amanda McKittrick Ros Irish writer. Many, including Mark Twain Aldous Huxley , and Wyndham Lewis considered her writing to be amusingly bad. Her novels were initially published privately. Her first novel, Irene Iddesleigh, was reviewed by humorist Barry Pain who sarcastically called it "the book of the century." Ros retorted by calling Pain a "clay crab of corruption." Ros may be considered to have had the last laugh, for her fame has outlasted his; furthermore, she made enough money from her second novel, Delina Delaney, to build a house, which she named Iddeleigh.
