WORST WRITER EVER BROUGHT TO BOOK.
Byline: By JENNA SLOAN
NORTHERN Ireland book lovers will be faced with a tough challenge next week when they try to read the "world's worst author".
Born in Ballynahinch, Co Down in 1860 Amanda McKittrick Ros Amanda McKittrick Ros Irene Iddesleigh at her own expense in 1898. is notorious for her lengthy poems and stories packed with melodrama and alliteration alliteration , the repetition of the same starting sound in several words of a sentence. Probably the most powerful rhythmic and thematic uses of alliteration are contained in Beowulf,
Before her death in 1939 she wished to "be talked about at the end of 1,000 years" and Culture Northern Ireland hopes to make that a reality.
David Lewis, director of the organisation, said: "We have some of the best writers in the world, like Seamus Heaney. So why not have the worst? There are a lot of fans out there who are quite obsessive about her.
"We have had a great response. We will choose the most ridiculous passages we can."

Historical Note
The Third Programme of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) was inaugurated on September 29, 1946, as part of the BBC's post-war restructuring of radio into three networks. Responding to the public's growing interest in the arts, which BBC programs during World War II had helped to foster, the BBC instituted three complementary networks designed not only to inform and entertain, but to educate the public as well: the Home Service, the Light Programme, and the Third Programme. The Home Service provided a broad range of news, educational, and entertainment services and was the principal channel. The Light Programme, as the name implies, offered lighter fare which was intended purely for relaxation and amusement purposes. The Third Programme was more serious in nature and catered to an esoteric audience. Its purpose, as outlined by Sir William Haley, was to present "the great classical repertoire in music and drama, and, so far as they are broadcastable, in literature and the other arts," things "culturally satisfying and significant." The BBC defined the program as "being for the educated rather than an educational programme."

Editorial.
THIS IS THE TYPES OF ISSUE I PARTICULARLY ENJOY as an editor and a readeran issue where articles lead from one to another along a pathway of related ideas, encouraging the reader to make connections and head off in new directions along the way.
We start off with a fascinating piece by Jason Marc Harris on the significance of water superstitions and the varied array of water creatures in 19th-century Scottish folklorebut before we are finished we have touched on similar folkloric elements from Norway to Benin to ancient Greece.
After this peek at the simmering ingredients in the Cauldron of Story, Annie Kinniburgh shows us what use Tolkien made of some elements of Celtic folklore by tracing similarities between Tolkien's Noldor and the Irish Tuatha De Danaan Tu·a·tha Dé Da·naan
