He is considered a master of the short story and is often compared to O. Henry and Dorothy Parker . His tales feature delicately drawn characters and finely judged narratives. "The Open Window" may be his most famous, with a closing line ("Romance at short notice was her speciality") that has entered the lexicon In addition to his short stories (which were first published in newspapers, as was the custom of the time, and then collected into several volumes) he also wrote a full-length play, The Watched Pot , in collaboration with Charles Maude; two one-act plays; a historical study

Saki (1870-1916) pseudonym of Hector Hugh Munro Scottish-born writer whose stories satirize the Edwardian social scene, often in a macabre and cruel way. Munro's columns and short stories were published under the pen name 'Saki', who was the cupbearer in The Rubayat of Omar Khayyam , an ancient Persian poem. Saki's stories were full of witty sayings - such as "The cook was a good cook, as cooks go; and as cooks go she went." Sometimes they also included coded references to homosexuality. "A little inaccuracy sometimes saves tons of explanations." (from The Square Egg Saki was born Hector Hugh Munro in Akyab, Burma (now Myanmar), the son of Charles Augustus Munro, an inspector-general in the Burma police. Munro's mother, the former Mary Frances Mercer, died in 1872 - she was killed by a runaway cow in an English country lane. Munro was brought up in England with his brother and sister by aunts who frequently used the birch and whip. He was educated at Pencarwick School in Exmouth and Bedford Grammar School. From 1887 he traveled with his family in France, Germany and Switzerland. In 1891 his father settled in Devon, where he worked as a teacher. In 1893 Munro joined the Burma police. Three years later he was back in England and started his career as a journalist, writing for the Westminster Gazette In 1900 Munro's first book, THE RISE OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE, appeared. It is a historical study modelled upon Gibbon's famous

Saki Miyanaga, a high school first-year student, hates mahjong because her family would always force her to play it and punish her regardless of the outcome of the game. Due to this, she learned how to keep her score at zero, neither winning nor losing, a skill said to be more difficult than actually consistently winning. However, her friend Kyōtarō from middle school, completely unaware of such circumstances, convinces her to visit the school's small mahjong club upon entering into high school. After the club discovers her ability, they recruit her permanently and convince her to win instead of breaking even. She easily does so with her skill and discovers a new love for mahjong. This leads the team to enter the prefecture's high school mahjong tournament with the goal of reaching the national high school competition.

Kayaking Adventures 2005 and Before Prijon Catalina After buying fast boats and paddling longer distances on open water, I was starting to find the narrow creeks a bit more interesting and scenic. These are the rivers such as the Catoctin, Antietam, Conococheague, Monococy, and Middle Patuxent. Some are a bit rocky in parts. Others have a tiny bit of easy whitewater in a few places that could damage a fragile carbon fiber surf ski. But overall, these creeks are mostly flat so a whitewater boat isn't necessary...but a long fragile sea kayak isn't quite right either. Unfortunately, I didn't have a non-tandem boat designed for such places. The ideal boat for me to venture in such waters would be short, plastic (hence durable), and made for a small person. I checked out a few (see

When William Came - Chapter 15: THE INTELLIGENT ANTICIPATOR OF WANTS
By Saki (H. H. Munro) Two of Yeovil's London clubs, the two that he had been accustomed to frequent, had closed their doors after the catastrophe. One of them had perished from off the face of the earth, its fittings had been sold and its papers lay stored in some solicitor's office, a tit-bit of material for the pen of some future historian.

THE SCHARTZ-METTERKLUME METHOD
By Saki (H. H. Munro) LADY CARLOTTA stepped out on to the platform of the small wayside station and took a turn or two up and down its uninteresting length, to kill time till the train should be pleased to proceed on its way. Then, in the roadway beyond, she saw a horse struggling with a more than ample load, and a carter of the sort that seems to bear a sullen hatred against the animal that helps him to earn a living. Lady Carlotta promptly betook her to the roadway, and put rather a different complexion on the struggle.
