    Biography
Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights fame respectively; however, it comes as some surprise to many people to learn that during her lifetime Anne was the most successful of the three, being the only one to get her first two novels successfully published - Charlotte's first novel being rejected by every publisher to whom it was sent; Anne's second novel, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall , rapidly outsold Emily's all-time classic and only novel, Wuthering Heights ; following the failure of the three sisters' combined book of poems, Anne was the only one who went on to have success in getting a number of her poems published independent of her sisters; and she is the only one who has had a number of hymns published: many still appearing in the hymn books of various religious denominations today. It was only her early death, coupled with a number of subsequent actions by Charlotte, that has left Anne in the shade of her two elder siblings. Both Anne and Emily died within little over a year of achieving fame; only Charlotte lived on for a number of years and was able to fully enjoy that status. During this time, she made friends with the writer Mrs. Elizabeth Gaskell who, a few years after Charlotte's death, wrote her biography. However, it was many years before anyone set about writing a biography of Anne or Emily, and by this time information about them had become relatively scarce and 'patchy'. Some information could certainly be gained from Mrs. Gaskell's Many people are aware that Anne's grave is situated in Scarborough - at the northern end of St. Mary's churchyard, beneath the castle walls; but few know anything of how she came to be interred there, or what her connections with the resort were. The following paragraphs give a brief account of Anne's life, and highlight her connections with Scarborough . . .

Anne Gray Harvey was born in Newton, Massachusetts, in 1928. She attended Garland Junior College for one year and married Alfred Muller Sexton II at age nineteen. She enrolled in a modeling course at the Hart Agency and lived in San Francisco and Baltimore. In 1953 she gave birth to a daughter. In 1954 she was diagnosed with postpartum depression, suffered her first mental breakdown, and was admitted to Westwood Lodge, a neuropsychiatric hospital she would repeatedly return to for help. In 1955, following the birth of her second daughter, Sexton suffered another breakdown and was hospitalized again; her children were sent to live with her husband's parents. That same year, on her birthday, she attempted suicide. She was encouraged by her doctor to pursue an interest in writing poetry she had developed in high school, and in the fall of 1957 she enrolled in a poetry workshop at the Boston Center for Adult Education. In her introduction to Anne Sexton's

All-Reviews.com Movie/Video Review Anne Frank Remembered
out of 4 Starring: Glenn Close Kenneth Branagh Director: Jon Blair Rated: PG RunTime: 117 Minutes Release Date: February Genre: Documentary Buy this DVD Amazon.com Buy this Video ... Half.com Review by Steve Rhodes 4 stars out of 4 ANNE FRANK REMEMBERED is a fresh telling of the tragic life of Anne Frank. It is a documentary where Anne's friends are interviewed and these interviews are beautifully interwoven by the editor Karen Steininger with moving and still images of Anne's era along with videos of the attic where she and seven others hid. This is not a sentimental film neither is it ever manipulative. It records the history in a stark, but effective and factual retelling. Most films about Anne Frank have been entitled THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK and center on the time of the diary with her as the focus. In ANNE FRANK REMEMBERED, the brilliant new director, writer, and producer Jon Blair chooses to consider the totality of her life from her father's marriage to after her death, and he also dwells more on the other people ensconced with her. In this more complete rendition, Anne comes alive as much more human and her death even more tragic. The story is told chronologically, and there is as much time devoted to the periods before and after the diary as to the diary period itself.
