The house
Hill walking Touring More info ... More Photos
About the House
Standing in a glen that boasts no fewer than 21 Munros, Woodlands enjoys the best of both worlds being in a remote location yet having a shop, bar and restaurant all within walking distance. The house sleeps 10/12 (5 bedrooms [plus two single futons]), and has 4 bath and/or shower rooms. In the house there is a wireless broadband and in one of the outbuildings there is a pool table and dart board. More information about the house plus photos of the interior are further down this page.
For Walkers and Climbers
Woodlands is a fantastic base for walkers and climbers. Apart from the multitude of Munros in Glenshiel itself, (the Five Sisters and Saddle being accessed directly from the house!), there's a whole host of other walks to do including coastal, valley and woodland. Other mountain ranges reachable from Woodlands are The Cuillin hills, Torridon, Ben Nevis range, Glen Affric, Glenelg and Knoydart. In addition Glencoe is about two hours away.
For the Tourer
Woodlands is extremely well-placed for touring the Highlands and Islands. Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Applecross accessed via the highest road in Scotland, or take a cruise along Loch Ness and visit Urquhart Castle. Closer to home there is the glorious Glenelg peninsular, the delightful Plockton or you may fancy going over the sea to Skye. Go whale watching, take a seal trip, sail in a glass bottomed boat, go boating, pony trekking, mackerel fishing or just relax in the house and enjoy the views

I ...............
  • am starting work at the Institute for Defense Analyses in Alexandria, Virginia in August, 1998, following a late honeymoon by my wife Marnie and I to Tahiti (Moorea to be more precise). We were married in March 1998. am a former graduate student at Caltech (California Institute of Technology, link at bottom of page), receiving my Ph.D. in Aeronautics in June 1998. Some like to refer to my field of graduate study as rocket science, but rockets are just one area of application of the field. In a sentence, Aeronautics is the study of the physics underlying the aspects of a system dependent on fluid flows (common examples of what I mean by fluids are air and water) or the integrity of solids (Fluid Mechanics and Solid Mechanics). Thus airplanes and rockets are of great interest, but so are cars, bridges, submarines and weather patterns. worked in Professor Anthony Leonard's research group on the development of a method of computing fluid flows called a vortex method and on simulation of a variety of bluff body flows. Please see the hallways to my research pages above for information.

A good man will take care of his horses and dogs, not
only while they are young, but when old and past service.

-Plutarch Symposiaca c.100 CE Along with the hound, the horse was an important factor in the lives of the Celts, from the Bronze Age through the present. The use of the horse in many ways defines all the Indo-European peoples, they depended on this animal for survival, migration, and trade. We are very lucky to have the chance to have horses, and hope to use this good fortune to give a good life to horses that, due to the overpopulation, might have otherwise ended up meat on the table of the wealthy in another country. Kym grew up with horses , but this is a new adventure for Aaron.

33. Shieling Gallery - Photography And Digital Artwork
Virtual gallery of photographs and digital artwork of Deeside and beyond presented by local resident Neil Cardy.
http://www.shieling.demon.co.uk/index.html
My name is Neil Cardy, I am a geologist by training and have spent the last 15 years working in the oil industry in the North Sea, Europe, Thailand and Australia. During that time I have taken a large amount of photographs and in the last few years I have started to use them in computer graphics on my computer. As a result, the house is now filling up with my prints and photographs. So I have decided to create the Shieling Gallery to show them to the outside world. This site is made up from my own original photographs and digital artwork derived from my photos with programs such as Photoshop and Painter on a G3 Apple Mac. The pictures are arranged in subsections and consist of thumbnailed images, clicking on the image will load a larger version of the image. All the pictures here are at a much lower resolution than the originals.
