SILVERBERG, ROBERT
Born 1935 in New York, Silverberg has studied english literature which may have helped him writing books, but definitely in finding pseudo- nyms! He used quite a stack of them, one of the being "Calvin M. Knox" (see list on the right). He published many science-fiction books, but also non-fiction gems ranging from archeology to sex-techniques.
There is a website that is about as official as it can get. And probably very complete:

New York City Occupation Novelist, short story writer Nationality American Period 1955—Present Genres Science fiction Fantasy Robert Silverberg (born January 15, 1935) is an American author, best known for writing science fiction . He is a multiple winner of both the Hugo and Nebula Awards
edit Early years
Silverberg was born in Brooklyn New York . A voracious reader since childhood, he began submitting stories to science fiction magazines during his early teenage years. He attended Columbia University , receiving an B.A. in English Literature in 1956. His first published novel , a children's book called Revolt on Alpha C , appeared in 1955, and he won his first Hugo the following year for "best new writer". For the next four years, by his own count, he wrote a million words a year, mostly for magazines and Ace Doubles . In 1959 the market for science fiction collapsed, and Silverberg turned his ability to write copiously to other fields, from carefully researched historical nonfiction to softcore pornography
edit Literary growth in the '60's and early 70's
In the mid-1960s, science fiction writers were starting to become more literarily ambitious.

10. "Reflections: The Conquest Of Space" By Robert Silverberg
SF author Robert Silverberg reflects on the Columbia shuttle disaster.
http://www.asimovs.com/_issue_0304/ref.shtml
Stories from Asimov's have won 41 Hugos and 24 Nebula Awards, and our editors have received 18 Hugo Awards for Best Editor. Asimov's was also the 2001 recipient of the Locus Award for Best Magazine. Current issue also available in
various electronic formats at
Reflections: The Conquest of Space by Robert Silverberg The most profound short-range effect, surely, will be on the astronaut program. Even today, barely forty-eight hours after the shuttle exploded over Texas, the lead article in the Wall Street Journal bears the headline, "Shuttle Crash Raises Questions About Future of Manned Flights," and begins, "Why is America still sending men and women into space?" Journal ’s question, "Why?" is a simple "Why not?" A NASA flight controller quoted by the Journal gives a somewhat more elaborate answer: "The human race has been about exploration since it crawled out of the swamps on four legs. If you’re not exploring, you’re dying." Times declares that the best possible outcome of the disaster would be the scrapping of the manned space program and the shifting of the billions of dollars thus saved to improving the science programs in our public schools. The best I can do in dealing with such remarks is to refer the anti-space people to the remarks of the NASA controller I quote above, and let them try to refute them. School science programs would not be well served by a curtailment of such a dramatic form of scientific research as the exploration of space.)

The Quasi-Official Robert Silverberg Web Site
Due to the sudden disappearance of the previous hosting company, Majipoor.com is currently incomplete. I'm working on the restoration as fast as I can. Images in particular are missing, and some may even now be attached to the wrong book. For some reason, I've also lost all of the accented characters on the French book titles. The pages about the planet Majipoor are also still MIA. A note from Robert Silverberg: I've asked Jon Davis to designate this site as the Quasi-Official Robert Silverberg Site , a term of my own devising. What I mean by it is that this is as close to an official site as I'm ever going to have, because I lack the technical skills to build a site of my own, as well as the time and, I suppose, the energy. And also my temperament is not inclined toward more self-promotion than is absolutely necessary for my professional well-being, and setting up a web site for oneself strikes me as a rather emphatic act of self-promotion. On the other hand, the site as Jon has constructed it contains everything that a proper author site should have, and nothing that it shouldn't. I was immensely pleased to discover it in my on-line wanderings and I continue to enjoy visiting it (as well as to make use of its bibliographical material for my own reference!). quasi-official Nevertheless, quasi-official though it may be, this is still Jon's Silverberg site, not Robert Silverberg's, and to him should go all applause for its comprehensiveness and elegance of design, as well as all responsibility for anything that I would just as soon not take responsibility for myself.

In the year 2381 with a world population of over seventy-five billion souls, the massive Urbmon system is humanity’s salvation.
