I just finished Message In A Bottle and it was a beautiful story as was his first book, The Notebook. He has a way of writing that taps into your heart. His stories are real and very easily read. I could hardly put either of them down. He is by far the most romantic writer I've ever read. He tells a great story without the commercial selling appeal of steamy love scenes. He gives credibility to the Romance book department. I can't wait to read his knew book A Walk to Remember. I've read most of the popular romance writers, Devereux, Garwood, Delinsky, etc. and have loved all of their books, but Sparks outdoes them with his heart filled tales. His father was pursuing graduate studies, and the family moved a great deal, so by the time Sparks was 8, he had lived in Minnesota, Los Angeles, and Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1974 his family settled in Fair Oaks, California, and remained there through Nicholas's high school days. He graduated in 1984 as valedictorian from Bella Vista High School, then enrolling at the University of Notre Dame, having received a full track and field scholarship. In his freshman year, his team set a record for the 4 x 800 relay.[citation needed] Sparks majored in business finance and graduated with honors in 1988. He also met his future wife that year, Cathy Cote from New Hampshire, while they were both on spring break. They married on July 22 1989 and moved to Sacramento, California. While still in school in 1985, Sparks had penned his first (never published) novel, The Passing, while home for the summer between freshman and sophomore years at Notre Dame. He wrote another novel in 1989, also unpublished, The Royal Murders. After college, Sparks sought work with publishers or to attend law school, but was rejected in both attempts. He then spent the next three years trying other careers, including real estate appraisal, waiting tables, selling dental products by phone and starting his own manufacturing business.

John Saul being one of them.....and now Nicholas Sparks! I've never found myself crying like I do when I read his books! You become a part of the story, you feel everything he writes. His books are easy to read and other authors cannot seem to capture in 500-600 pages what he can in only half that many. (The Notebook being only a little over 200) I couldn't wait to see the movie "Message in a Bottle", and was so disappointed when it never seemed to capture the feeling that he did in the book. I know that movies never live up to books, but I felt this movie was a severe injustice to the author. You certainly won't be disappointed reading the book! A must read author!
