HUNTER S. THOMPSON QUOTES Las Vegas is a society of armed masturbators/gambling is the kicker here/sex is extra/weird trip for high rollers ... house-whores for winners, hand jobs for the bad luck crowd. HUNTER S. THOMPSON, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas The city's frightening now. That's the basis of my reaction to Las Vegas. It's not the city I wrote about. It's not the same place at all. 4. Hunter S. Thompson Interview
A transcript of an interview by Sarah Nelson of the Book Report.
http://www.fargonebooks.com/hunter.html
Transcript of Hunter S. Thompson Interview Courtesy of The Book Report We were a little tense at The Book Report the other day. Would Hunter S. Thompson, famed author of FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and the new bestseller THE PROUD HIGHWAY really show up for his live interview? He is, after all, an unrepentant Dunhill-smoking, Patron-swilling, walking chemical laboratory whose closest friends concede can be just a tad unreliable. But Hunter said he'd come, and so he did. We agreed to let him keep his TV tuned to his beloved basketball playoffs and he delivered what he promised: some characteristically smart and funny thoughts on his new book, his writing career - and, of course, his gonzo reputation. Our interviewer was TBR Executive Editor Sara Nelson (bookpgSara), aided by producer Sean Doorly (Sdoorly). Our unflappable host was Marlene T.
Marlene T: Hello, Sara and Mr. Thompson. Good evening! Hunter Thompson: Good evening Hunter Thompson: Sorry, I'm betting on the basketball game right now. Wait a minute. I hope Utah wins, but I think Chicago will. Bookpgsara: In your new collection of letters, The PROUD HIGHWAY, edited by Douglas Brinkley, you said that you threw out 12 letters for every one that was published. When did you start saving your letters and why?

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. (Sounds so good I had to write it twice). Writer, adventurer, courageous soul, and other things that are best left to his own narrative style. Thompson first captured the eye of the public with his depiction of a year on the road with the . He first caught my eye, and quite belatedly, after I wandered in to see the Terry Gilliam adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas hundreds of people looking for here There are a few times in this life when something reaches up through the mist and purposely grabs you by the throat. Engulfing myself in a book or article written by HST is several of these such occasions. Do yourself a favor, give him a try. His hand might just appear from nowhere and pull you back down with him. My fascination with Hunter Thompson came shortly after watching the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I liked the movie, but thought it could have been better, however I thought Johnny Depp was amazing in it. I soon found out that this movie was based on the true life journals of a man named Hunter S. Thompson. I then bought the book like half the other people in this nation to only find out that it's one of the best books I ever read. I just really love Thompson's writing style. I have been interested in journalism for quite some time now and if I don't get anywhere in the film world, I would consider being a doc of journalism. I consider Hunter Thompson a big inspiration.
Wahoo! Hunter Thompson's new book The Rum Diary: The Long Lost Novel , comes out this fall!
"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half-full of cocaine and a whole galaxy of multicolored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers...Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls...not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked in a serious drug collection, the tendancy is to push it as far as you can..."
I have only a few Hunter Thompson books now but after reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I can honestly say that Terry Gilliam's adaption of the book is actually pretty good but I still like the book better mainly because Hunter's witty remarks are damn hilarious to read. What I like the most about him is the fact that he fears nothing. He will do the lowest and most unthinkable way to get a story. A good example is in Hell's Angels when he actually hangs out with this dangrous gang on motorcycles to only find himself get seriously muffed up later in his saga. His writing really is unique and hopefully I can get him noticed a little more by this site. I'm a rising fan of his political journalism, but I will update this page whenever I read a new book by the good doctor.

by Hunter S. Thompson Simon Schuster The Rum Diary was begun in 1959 by then twenty-two-year-old Hunter S. Thompson. It was his first novel, and he told his friend, the author William Kennedy, that The Rum Diary would "in a twisted way . . . do for San Juan what Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises did for Paris." In Paul Kemp, the novel's hero, there are echoes of the young Thompson, who was himself honing his wildly musical writing style as one of the "ill-tempered wandering rabble" on staff at the San Juan Daily News at the time. "I shared a dark suspicion," Kemp says, "that the life we were leading was a lost cause, we were all actors, kidding ourselves along on a senseless odyssey. It was the tension between these two poles a restless idealism on one hand and a sense of impending doom on the other - that kept me going." RUMRING INDEX
