  • ASIN: Book Description Customer Reviews: Natural Apocalyptic story This is a Natural Apocalyptic story. Sequal is Dawn by S. Fowler Wright (1929) "'Deluge' is an archetypal disaster story in which a geographical upheaval causes the greater part of Britain to sink beneath he sea, turning the Chilterns into an archipelago of tiny islands. The hero plays a key role in helping to restore some semblance of social order out of the violent anarchy which follows. The book is a direct ancestor of the similarly structured novels which John Wyndham and John Christopher wrote in the 1950s. The story was continued in a sequel, 'Dawn' (1929 in the US; 1930 in the UK), but a projected third volume was never written. Because so many copies were printed, the US edition of 'Deluge', published by Cosmopolitan, is much more common than the relatively scarce Fowler Wright edition, while Cosmpolitan's edition of 'Dawn' is also easier to find than the later UK edition."

by Sydney Fowler Wright II III IV
"What would ye that I did?" said Sir Lancelot.
"I would have you to my husband," said Elaine.
"Fair damosel, I thank you," said Sir Lancelot,
"but truly," said he, "I cast me never to be wedded man."
"Then, fair knight," said she, "will ye be my paramour?"
"Jesu defend me," said Sir Lancelot, "for then I
rewarded your father and your brother full evil
    for their great goodness."
"Alas," said she, "then must I die for your love."
    Le Morte D'Arthur.
    Book XVIII Chap. XIX.
    PART I
SHE came when evening came, - her feet The cool grass comforted, - Where love through morn and noon-day heat Her seeking steps had led To him who had no love for her, And nigh whose life was dead. Lone through the lengthened days he lay Within that hermit's cave, Since, on the fatal tourney day, So deep the lancehead drave It seemed nor any skill could heal, Nor any love could save. Was closed that riven hurt where-through The restless life had drained.

    CHAPTER ONE
SHE looked at the magician with eyes that were bright and rather hard, and disputed the evidence of a dimple that came easily. She was twenty-eight, and looked younger. The magician looked worried, and felt more so. and "But you said they were dreams?" "So they are; and so are we, for that matter. They're as real as we are. The human mind cannot invent anything. I couldn't have given you a dream of Atlantis unless it had once been real, and you were there as really as anyone ever was." "I don't understand," she answered, "and I don't suppose you do either. But I'm going to dream a dry cave for a start this time, or it's the last deal we have." The magician raised a white and well-fed hand in a gesture of protest. " Miss Leinster! " he said, "have I ever failed in a promise?" She leant forward slightly, and her tone changed. "You might tell me this: Could I get killed in a dream? He answered frankly: "I don't know. I don't really know much about it. I've found out some things that are new and seemed strange at first, but they're obvious enough when once you get used to them... In a way, you ought to know better than I."
