History of Aboriginal Australia
Their numbers dwindled in the early years of European settlement due to exposure to Western diseases such as smallpox, which wiped out around 50% of the Aboriginal population. Their land and water was also appropriated by British settlers and turned into grazing land for cattle. A photograph showing Aboriginal people in the early years of European settlement. There are many regional Aborigines that often identify themselves with their own indigenous names such as the Koori in New South Wales and the Murri tribe in Queensland. The Aborigines were mainly hunter-gatherers, having an unique knowledge of the land and its seasons. Most groups were mobile, moving to different areas as the seasons changed. The majority of Aboriginal people however, lived in the south or south east of Australia, along the River Murray in particular.
Indigenous Languages
At the start of European settlement, Aborigines had over 250 languages, but these languages are now in danger of becoming obsolete, with only around 15 of the languages still in use. Each tribe, or settlement, had their own local language.

ABORIGINAL AUSTRALIA ~ Uluru (Ayers Rock) Australia Itinerary
The Aboriginal tribes of Australia are cultures that give us such a feeling of antiquity and connection to the land.
They have been in Australia
for over 70,000 years.
Just being around some of them can be a reminder of who we are and where we all come from - true ancestrally rooted Earth-People.
Our journey to the unique island continent of Australia, will first center in the red desert and the sacred rock Uluru. Commonly known as Ayers rock, Uluru is the aboriginal name and our guides there will be the AnanSgu Aborigines , stewards of this sacred site. From them we will hear the histories of the great spirit beings that formed the ways of the land and their ancestors. These are the ancestral ways that still today are their living laws. http://www.ananguwaai.com.au/anangu_tours/ From the deep desert we fly next to the Australian northeast coast and the tropical Daintree Rainforest that fronts the Great Barrier Reef. There we will be with the Kuku Yalanji tribe . They are a people obviously shaped by the sweet and lush spirits of the forest and sea of their ancestral homelands. We will enjoy much time with various tribal members walking the forest and beaches, sharing their native crafts, food and lore.

Indigenous Australians
Indigenous Australians are the original inhabitants of the Australian continent and nearby islands and the descendants of these peoples. Indigenous Australians are distinguished as either Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders, who currently together make up about 2.7% of Australia 's population. The Torres Strait Islanders are indigenous to the Torres Strait Islands, which are at the northern-most tip of Queensland near Papua New Guinea. The term " Aboriginal " has traditionally been applied to indigenous inhabitants of mainland Australia , Tasmania, and some of the other adjacent islands.

"Get the best Aboriginal experiences" Aboriginal Australia is something you should try to incorporate into your trip. The word aborigine or aboriginal means Indigenous to Australia. They were the original inhabiters of Australia before the island was discovered and occupied by the British and other Europeans. When visiting Australia, you can gain glimpses of their old traditions and ways of life. But first, take a little time to understand them....
History
It's difficult to say when exactly the first aborigine settler can be traced back to but some experts believe it could be as many as 50,000 years ago. Pre 1788 when the European settlement started, the aboriginal Australia population was probably around 315,000. They were semi-nomadic hunter gatherers. That meant that they moved around a little bit to ensure they got enough food, but they lived off the land. There were 250 different nations each with their own customs, language and clans. So, there were over 200 languages, many of which are extinct today. These nations were spread right across Australia but the east and southern regions were the most densely populated. With the European settlers came old world diseases that the aborigines could not survive. This wiped out many of their population. On top of that, laws gave them no claim to the land and as the European settlers grew, the aborgines were pushed out.

Australia’s Aboriginal people have a continuous history spanning at least 50,000 years. Their living culture is the oldest in the world.
1. The didgeridoo is possibly the world’s oldest musical instrument
The didgeridoo has become a symbol of Aboriginal music, however, not all Aboriginal groups had didgeridoos which were originally found in Arnhem Land and known as ‘yidaki’. It is made from tree trunks and branches that have been hollowed out by termites.

Aboriginal Australians conserve the oldest culture in the world. Human occupation of Australia started about 65,000 years ago with successive waves of immigration from south and southeast Asia . Archaeologists continue to revise the date of early settlements. The word 'aboriginal' has appeared in the English language since the 17th century and means 'first or earliest known, indigenous.' This term has been used to describe its indigenous peoples as early as 1789. It was appropriated when the English colonized Australia. Before colonists arrived from Europe , there were no aboriginals, just people. The world's oldest surviving man-made houses are situated in Victoria at Lake Condah. They are about 8,000 years old and pre-dated the Egyptian pyramids by about 5,000 years. Curiously, the site has no World Heritage listing.
