Acupuncture is part of a medical system which originated in China and has been practised for thousands of years. It is a holistic approach to the management of disease as well as the maintenance of health. It is based on the theory that our health is
dependent upon the free flow of our body's
vital energy or Qi moving in a smooth and
balanced way through a network of
pathways beneath the skin. These
pathways all interconnect and directly
influence the functioning of the internal
organs and other controlling systems of
the body. When the flow of Qi becomes
disordered we no longer experience full
health or internal harmony. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors, such as, stress, our emotions, injury and hereditary factors Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine disposable needles into specific points along the energy pathways which influences the physiological functioning of the body and assists the flow of Qi. The action of needling stimulates the body to rebalance itself, activating our own recuperative and self-healing powers.
