Education Let your students stomp their feet, shake their hips and clap along to the sounds and rhythms of Africa with our African Dance workshop! African dance is a dance of the soul- a way of matching the rhythms we hear with the beat of our heart. It is a collaborative art form, teaching community and self-expression while allowing students to have fun and be active! Based on traditional rhythms and music from Disney's The Lion King , this workshop aims to introduce students to a different type of dance and a different type of movement. The workshop can be incorporated into Arts-in-Education learning standards for all grades K-12, and can serve as an interesting and rigorous alternative for advanced dance and theatre groups. Our teaching artist, Fosino Nelson, will come to your school to lead the workshop

74. Biography
African Dance with Inge van Winkel in Perth and Fremantle Western Australia AUSTRALIA
http://www.africandance.com.au/biography.html
Home Biography Biography Inge is an extremely diverse freelance dancer, teacher, choreographer and an all-round artist. She loves working in a team with professional musicians.
Inge specialized in contemporary dance and jazz dance at Dance Academy Codarts, University of the Arts in Rotterdam. She then received a prestigious scholarship to specialize in African dance in West-Africa. This allowed her to train with National Dance Companies in Ghana and Guinea and at the University of Arts in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, as well as with local dance groups.
After study in Africa she became a freelance performer in various companies and in many projects. Before she even graduated at Codarts she was teaching there, which she continued to do until recently.
Inge uses her extensive knowledge of both Western and non-Western dance forms to educate, encourage and inspire her students. Because she has specialised in various dance disciplines, she is capable of teaching purely African, contemporary, modern, jazz or salsa dance, but her talent lies in blending these disciplines to create exciting choreography fusions. Want to read more about Inge's education and activities in dance? Here is a short overview:

We at Berkeley Ballet Theater foster excellence in our students by providing a rigorous, nurturing and diverse environment in which they receive professional classical ballet training and performance opportunities.
We believe that the joy of dance, with all its physical, mental, and aesthetic benefits, should be available to everyone. Whatever a student's goal, we believe it is best achieved in a well-disciplined but positive and loving environment. Our school emphasizes a pure classical style, and encourages students to develop technique in a manner that is safe for their particular body. There are no height or weight requirements and all body types are welcome. As performance is a valuable part of a dancer's education, we provide opportunities for all students to participate in stage productions.
