The National FFA Organization is a dynamic youth organization that changes lives and prepares students for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.Today, almost half-a-million student members are engaged in a wide range of agricultural education activities, leading to more than 300 professional career opportunities. Student success remains the primary mission of FFA.Please note: Although FFA was created in 1928 as Future Farmers of America, the name was changed in 1988 to represent the growing diversity of agriculture. FFA is not extracurricular! The programcompletes a three-part model of education. Classroom instruction is applied to hands-on opportunities called supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs). SAEs include activities such as starting a business or working for an established company. Classroom learning and SAEs are further reinforced through curriculum-enhancing programs within the community. FFA holds a federal charter.Two of the top three FFA executives are employed by the U.S. Department of Education.

Florida FFA Hall of Fame The Florida FFA Hall of Fame began in 2007 to pay tribute to those outstanding individuals who have helped make the Florida FFA Association the premier youth leadership organization in the state. Position Summary: The Compost Educator will facilitate cafeteria composting initiatives in approximately eight School Garden Project (SGP) member schools. Compost generated through these programs will be used to amend vegetable beds in school gardens, where students learn food production skills through SGP programs. The Compost Educator will help participating schools plan and implement a cafteria composting program, and educate students about composting, gardening and the local food system. The Compost Educator reports primarily to the SGP Director regarding specific site duties. The position involves close collaboration with other community groups including the Compost Specialists and the Farm to School program. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate cafeteria composting efforts in approximately eight schools Responsible for planning and leading agricultural education activities with youth Recruit and coordinate volunteers to sustain compost programs Plan and lead activities for Outdoor School students during field education and work weeks Partner with other organizations, such as Farm to School and the Oregon Green School Association, to better serve our students and local community

Three New Jerseyans Recognized with Honorary American FFA Degree For Immediate Release: November 2001 Contact: Hope Gruzlovic

Three supporters of New Jersey agricultural education, Susan R. Butch of Trenton, Michael Iannitelli of Phillipsburg and William N. Brooks of Elmer, were presented with the Honorary American FFA Degree by the National FFA Organization at the 74th National FFA Convention in Louisville, KY, in October. The award is presented to those individuals who advance agricultural education and the FFA through outstanding personal commitment and is the highest degree that can be bestowed upon a non-member. Butch, a 27-year employee of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture in Trenton, has assisted New Jersey agricultural education by serving as a judge for state career development events; coordinating facilities and contracts for conferences and conventions, as well as helping to provide agricultural education technology grants and equipment to New Jersey's FFA chapters. Iannitelli, a principal engineering aide at the Warren County Engineers Office in Belvidere, has shown his support of agricultural education by serving as the treasurer of the New Jersey FFA Foundation for the past 11 years. The Foundation is an organization that provides financial support to agricultural education activities. Iannitelli, a former FFA member who served as a state FFA officer, has served as a judge for state FFA convention and seeks to promote agricultural education through his involvement in the local, county and state Grange.
