American – Australian Tribrid  (AAT) Overview Tribrids Tribrids the next generation of alternative fuel vehicles! Tribrid.com is dedicated to the promotion of automotive design that goes beyond both traditional and the more recent hybrid-powered “ICE” vehicles (meaning those vehicles which are ultimately powered solely by Internal Combustion Engines).
At a minimum, a Tribrid vehicle must be able to refuel at least in part using “free energy” taken from the environment.
There are currently no practical Tribrid vehicles for sale to the general public. A handful of electric vehicles do exist that are at least capable of accepting some form of free energy, but to date they all lack the range and conveniences that consumers have come to enjoy (or at least are willing to pay for, both financially and environmentally) in their ICE vehicles.
Perhaps the most promising “Tribird” on the horizon is the Chevrolet Volt: A fully equipped battery-powered electric vehicle with anxiety-relieving range-extending back-up power coming from either a liquid-fuel generator or a fuel cell. As currently envisioned the Volt will not be factory equipped with on-board solar arrays. However, its batteries will be rechargeable using normal household current, thus allowing it to immediately (even if unwittingly!) accept energy generated by the sun, wind, tides, etc. Technology Availability Imagination Hybrid Electric Vehicles 2007

For example, the law requires owners of fleet vehicles to purchase a certain number of alternative fueled vehicles. Congress also directed the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to issue labeling requirements for alternative fuels and alternative fueled vehicles. Two FTC Rules - the Alternative Fuels and Vehicles (AFV) Rule and the Fuel Rating Rule - require fuel dispensers and alternative fueled vehicles to be labeled with information to help consumers make knowledgeable decisions when it comes to filling up or buying a vehicle. The AFV Rule applies to new and used alternative fueled vehicles that are sold to consumers or leased to consumers for a minimum of 120 days.

The Granite State Clean Cities Coalition is a collaborative of over 80 public and private interests from all regions in New Hampshire. Coalition members support the goals of reducing dependence on foreign oil, and improving air quality, through the use of domestically produced, cleaner burning alternative fuels and other fuel reduction strategies Why We Support These Goals:
    • More than 60% of the US petroleum products are from foreign countries. More than 50% of the air pollution in New Hampshire and the Northeast is generated by the transportation sector.
What is Clean Cities Sponsored by the US Department of Energy , the Clean Cities program is a government-industry partnership designed to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector by advancing the use of alternative fuels and vehicles, idle reduction technologies, hybrid electric vehicles, fuel blends, and fuel economy measures. By encouraging AFV use, idle reduction and fuel economy, the Clean Cities program will help achieve energy security and environmental quality goals at both the national and local levels. The program takes a unique, voluntary approach, working with coalitions of local stakeholders to help develop the AFV industry, encourage fuel economy measures and integrate this development into larger planning processes. Labeling Alternative Fueled Vehicles
    Introduction
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) prepared this booklet to help you comply with a new FTC rule that requires labeling on alternative fueled vehicles. The Labeling Requirements for Alternative Fuels and Alternative Fueled Vehicles Rule was issued in keeping with a directive in the Energy Policy Act of 1992. The Rule requires you to provide information to potential purchasers of alternative fueled vehicles to help them compare vehicles. The Rule has separate requirements for the labeling of alternative fuels and alternative fueled vehicles. This booklet deals only with the requirements for alternative fueled vehicles (Subpart C of the Rule). A companion booklet Labeling Fuels provides information about the labeling requirements for fuels, including liquid and non-liquid alternative fuels.
    Requirements
The Rule requires standardized labels on certain alternative fueled vehicles (AFVs) offered to consumers for sale or lease. For new AFVs, the Rule requires that manufacturers prepare and post labels consisting of three parts. Part one must disclose objective information about the estimated cruising range and environmental impact of the particular AFV. Parts two and three must disclose information about AFVs in general. For used AFVs, the Rule requires that dealers post a label with general information about AFVs not specific information about a particular vehicle.

Can Alternative Fueled Vehicles Save The Planet?
Citizens worldwide are currently living in a time when the bad effects of fossil fuels are on the minds of everyone. Not only are these fuels becoming scarce, they are also making a major contribution towards devastating the environment. From Antarctica to Australia environmental harm is making a serious impact on the people and wild life that inhabits the land. Scientists are frantically working to discover and improve upon alternative fuels in hopes of preventing further atmospheric damage, as well as finding more abundant and practical energy sources to utilize.(EPA, 2007) The production of alternative fueled vehicles is going to play a major role in the effort to reduce pollution and slow the destruction of the earth.
Pollution caused by vehicles accounts for a majority of the earth’s air pollution and energy waste. (Bluejay, 1999) The pollution caused by vehicles can cause conditions that range from respiratory problems, to lung cancer, and to a depleting ozone. When cars create this pollution they are also contributing to the ground level ozone, which is not the same as the atmospheric ozone layer; it is commonly known as smog. Smog is low-lying ozone assembled of nitrogen oxides and reactive hydrocarbons, both of which lower immunities and promote respiratory infections. (Bluejay, 1999) Additionally, the atmospheric ozone is also affected by vehicle pollutants, or emissions. The same chemicals that cause smog also cause the atmospheric ozone to deplete, letting harmful ultraviolet rays into the earth’s environment.

CPUC TO CONSIDER POLICIES RELATED TO
    ALTERNATIVE FUELED VEHICLES
SAN FRANCISCO, August 20, 2009 - The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), in anticipation of the introduction of more alternative-fueled vehicles to the state's roadways during the next five years, today said it will examine the impacts electric and natural gas vehicles may have on our state's energy infrastructure, while at the same time recognizing the benefits of these vehicles to California's climate change goals. "Many automakers will be introducing to California roadways electric charged vehicles in the next few years," said CPUC President Michael R. Peevey. "As a result of this market development, we will consider tariffs, infrastructure, and policies needed for investor-owned utilities to ready the electricity system in a consistent way for the projected statewide market growth of light-duty passenger plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles throughout California." Commissioner Rachelle Chong added, "The transportation sector is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gas emissions. Electric and natural gas vehicles present a major opportunity to reduce these emissions."
