In elementary school, your teacher probably demonstrated the Solar System by showing you a model with a light bulb in the middle and several balls on wires circling around the bulb. This model is a good way to show how planets orbit the Sun, but it doesn't explain the different seasons that we experience here on Earth. In addition to spinning around the Sun as the light-bulb model demonstrates, the Earth is also tilted on its axis by about 23.5 degrees (the axis is an imaginary line running through the center of the Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole). From mid March through mid September (in other words, between the spring and fall equinox) the Northern Hemisphere of the planet is titled towards the Sun. During the other half of the year, the Southern Hemisphere tilts towards the Sun instead. This "axial tilt" is responsible for the seasonal changes that affect most of the Earth. March through September is the warmest season in the Northern Hemisphere because that's when the northern half of the Earth is inclined towards the Sun; the days are longer, since the tilt means that this half of the Earth is in direct sunlight for longer periods, and the increased sunlight leads to increased heat. The opposite happens in winter, when your half of the Earth is inclined away from the Sun and spends more time shadowed from the Sun. The only part of the Earth that has little seasonal temperature change is near the Equator, where axial tilt has no effect.

The Anasazi (pronounced ah-nah-SAH-zee) were a prehistoric tribe of Native Americans that lived in the Four Corners area of the southwest United States, encompassing what is now northern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, southern Utah and southwestern Colorado. The Anasazi, who inhabited this area from about 200 to 1300 AD, descended from a prehistoric group of nomadic hunter-gatherers, dubbed the “Clovis” people, who hunted many animals such as mammoth, bear and rabbit, possibly the first to migrate to the continent. It has been accepted that humans first came to North America around 10,000 years ago, but new sites found on the American continents suggests a date twice that old. At about 1000 BC, some of the nomads began to form permanent settlements and soon came the birth of the Anasazi culture. Two hundred years before the birth of Christ, the Anasazi began cultivating maize. Horticulture became increasingly important in the growing Anasazi culture and at 1200, the cultivation of maize, squash and beans had become a major food source, possibly more important than hunting. Due to the harsh environments of the deserts the Anasazi inhabited, much of their time was invested in feeding themselves. Agriculture was no easy feat for the Anasazi, rainfall came sporadically between draughts, some of which lasted for years. Most of the wild game in the area were small and thus hard to catch, so the men spent much of the day hunting for meat. The women also labored, weaving cloth by hand and grinding maize into flour with stones. Examinations of the remains of the skeletons of many elderly Anasazi women show severe arthritis caused by constant bending, kneeling and grinding.

They lived in "houses" called pueblos in which they lifted up ladders when enemies attacked when they came near. The cultural group has often been referred to in archaeology as the Anasazi , although the term is not preferred by the modern Puebloan peoples . The word Anasazi is Navajo for "Ancient Ones" or "Ancient Enemy". Archaeologists still debate when this distinct culture emerged. The current consensus, based on terminology defined by the Pecos Classification , suggests their emergence around 1200 BC , during the archaeologically designated Basketmaker II Era . Beginning with the earliest explorations and excavations, researchers postulated that the Ancient Puebloans are ancestors of the modern

My father, friends and I hiked, loaded on our back with gear and food for three days, to the sandy bottom of the canyon.  A sign warned of quicksand where wild horses galloped around spots of shimmering mud similar to other creek puddles, but would eat your whole leg if stepped on. For two days, we explored the ancient cliff dwellings in Northern Arizona. A guide stationed near the campsite in a log cabin led us up wooden ladders hugging the canyon wall up to the past homes of the Anasazi people. The Keet Seel ruins look over the Tseigi Canyon. They seem to be almost perfectly placed in the canyon wall, using nature as protection against bad weather and enemies. The ruins remain one of the most preserved ruins of the Anasazi tribe. Pottery scattered each room of the ruins and wooden posts stood outside, where birds were tied to, according to the guide. There are 160 rooms in Keet Seel, as well as six ceremonial houses, called

Kokopelli Tattoo Designs, Ideas and Pictures
A lot of people recognize the name Kokopelli, but are not really sure what it is. Kokopelli is a glyph-like drawing of a man with his hair standing up playing a flute, done by many Native American tribes in the Southwest. He can be shown as a stick figure or clothed in Native American dress. Often depicted as hunchbacked, Kokopelli is still worshipped by many Native American tribes in the Southwest today. Legend states that the hunch on Kokopelli is a bag of seeds, babies, and music. The Kokopelli image comes from ancient petroglyphs from over 3,000 years ago found carved into boulders, walls of rock, and pottery throughout the southwest region of North America. Many Southwestern Native American cultures have some sort of variety of the Kokopelli god. Legend has it that the Kokopelli legend originates from the Anasazi Native American tribe’s fertility god. Kokopelli looks over both human fertility and the fertility of agriculture and animals, particularly water and sun-loving animals. Kokopelli is also known as the “love” god.

Writing a Novel
cialis generico Home Writing Articles by Linda Jo Martin By Linda Jo Martin For the last month I've been writing a novel. Every November since 2001, the year after I moved to Happy Camp, I've written a novel. Before then I only dreamed of writing novels. I desired to write them, as if it were to be the apogee of my existence. Since around 1980 I'd been attempting to write novels. I know now that nearly every novelist goes through this. I'd start a novel and write a first chapter, maybe an outline, maybe a little more. Then I'd quit. How could anyone get through such a gargantuan project, I wondered. But the library shelves taunted me for they are full of novels, both long and short. There are hundreds, no thousands of novels, and nearly as many novelists. How did they get their start? How did they manage to write two hundred consecutive pages in one story line? It was mysterious to me, but I wanted to do it. My first novel writing attempt came when I was about thirty, right after I read the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Like so many others, I loved those books and it occurred to me that she'd just told the mundane details of her impoverished, prairie life. I can do that, I told myself. I decided to write about a girl named Jenny, growing up. Each chapter would be about each year of her life. I knew about children, I was sure, because I'd had three of them by that time.
