Working eighty-hour weeks in the fast-paced medical world makes it hard to lead a real life, but Meredith Grey sure is trying. Meredith's ( Ellen Pompeo ), along with interns Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, George O'Malley and Alex Karev's, medical world revolved around textbooks and professors yesterday, but today they are experiencing medicine first-hand as surgical interns at Seattle Grace Hospital, a teaching hospital with one of the toughest residency programs in the nation. Here, they must learn to balance their personal lives with their highly competitive professional lives, all while dealing with the daily stress of life and death situations. Each of the interns has a unique personality, which, at times, clash as they struggle to work and live along side one another. Meredith is following the same career path as her mother, Ellis Grey's, a highly successful and noted surgeon, all while dealing with her mother's advanced Alzheimer’s disease and coping with her less than perfect childhood. ANATOMY (Gr. avaro17, from ava -ri wecv, to cut up), literally dissection or cutting asunder, a term always used to denote the study of the structure of living things; thus there is animal anatomy (zootomy) and vegetable anatomy (phytotomy). Animal anatomy may include the study of the structure of different animals, when it is called comparative anatomy or animal morphology or it may be limited to one animal only, in which case it is spoken of as special anatomy. From a utilitarian point of view the study of Man is the most important division of special anatomy, and this human anatomy may be approached from different points of view. From that of the medical man it consists of a knowledge of the exact form, position, size and relationship of the various structures of the human body in health, and to this study the term descriptive or topographical human anatomy is given, though it is often, less happily, spoken of as Anthropotomy. An accurate knowledge of all the details of the human body takes years of patient observation to gain and is possessed by only a few. So intricate is man's body that only a small number of professional human anatomists are complete masters of all its details, and most of them specialize on certain parts, such as the brain From the morphological point of view, however, human anatomy is a scientific and fascinating study, having for its object the discovery of the causes which have brought about the existing structure of Man, and needing a knowledge of the allied sciences of

These Web Pages are dedicated to all the students with whom I had the good fortune of teaching at Georgetown University. They are meant to be studied by the person who is just interested in learning a little about human anatomy, as a review of previous anatomy courses or for anyone else who might find the lessons helpful. Because of the arrangement of diagrams in the lessons, smaller monitors may require that you scroll left or right to see the entire screen. I apologize for this inconvenience but felt it to be necessary to have the diagrams situated the way they are.
    Study plan
I will approach this study of human anatomy by regions as shown below: Terminology Head and Neck Thorax Abdomen ... Examination Key Related sites http://www.geocities.com/akramjfr/index.html http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net http://msnotebook.com www.anatomie.opzijnbest.nl
This is commonly called a regional approach to the study of anatomy. Another approach would be the systemic approach, which takes a look at each system separately (vascular, respiratory, etc.) Each lesson will point out various structures found in the particular region being examined and then followed by a review of what has been covered. Within each region, the following items will be pointed out: bones and joints muscles nerves blood vessels and lymphatics When we study the THORACIC, ABDOMINAL, and PELVIC cavities, the above list will also include the various organs.

Meet Meredith Grey . She's a woman trying to lead a real life while doing a job that makes having a real life impossible. Meredith is a first year surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital , the toughest surgical residency program west of Harvard. She and fellow first-year interns Cristina Yang Izzie Stevens George O'Malley and Alex Karev were students yesterday. Today they're doctors and, in a world where on the job training can be a matter of life and death, they're all juggling the ups and downs of their own personal lives. The five interns struggle to form friendships in this most stressful and competitive atmosphere. Meredith's medical ambition is overshadowed by a troubling secret: Her mother, a noted pioneering surgeon, is struggling with a tragic and devastating illness. The interns are guided by an established team of doctors who are determined to shape them into skilled surgeons or break them. Grey's Anatomy focuses on young people struggling to be doctors and doctors struggling to stay human. It's the drama and intensity of medical training mixed with the funny, sexy, painful lives of interns who are about to discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

    Anatomy
(Greek, anatome Literally, cutting up, or dissection; now used to signify the science of the form and structure of living beings. It is a department of biology that is divided into animal and vegetable anatomy. Animal anatomy is further divided into comparative anatomy, that is, the study of different animals for purposes of comparison, and special anatomy which studies the form and structure of a single animal. This last embraces the departments of embryology, the study of the formation of living beings, and morphology, the study of the form and structure. Further important divisions are: physiological anatomy, the study of parts in relation to their functions; surgical or topographical anatomy which considers the relations of different parts, and pathological anatomy which treats of the changes brought on by disease, in various organs or tissues.
    History: Greek and Latin period
Anatomical knowledge had its beginnings very early in the history of the race. Animal sacrifices led to a knowledge of animal anatomy which was readily applied to man . The art of embalming also necessitated a knowledge of the position of blood vessels and certain organic relations . Even Homer used many terms which indicate a much deeper knowledge of human structures than might be expected thus early. The first real development of
