Bonaire Sint Eustatius The first settlement in Sint Eustatius was established in 1636 and changed hands between the Dutch, French, and Spanish 22 times in its history. In the 18th century the island became a duty free port for overburdened colonizers shipping back to the homeland, which propelled it into a major port with rapid population growth that lost momentum after the American-British peace treaty in 1783. Saba Columbus was the first to sight Saba, but it was the Dutch who colonized the island in 1640 with a party from Sint Eustacia. Because of its difficult terrain, the island's growth progressed slowly, and it remains the least populated island in the Dutch Kingdom. Sint Maarten The Dutch were the first to colonize Sint Maarten in 1631, but within 2 years the Spanish invaded and evacuated the settlers. The Dutch made a failing attempt to regain the island in 1644, but 4 years later the Spanish abandoned the island of their own accord. In 1648 the island was divided between the Dutch and the French; however, complete control of the island was seized numerous times in a series of conflicts. The British became involved as well, taking power for a 6-year and 10-year stint. Finally, in 1817, the current partition line between Dutch and French was established. The island flourished under a slave-based plantation economy and the exportation of salt until abolition of slavery in 1863.

April 2003 click here for a printable version All people that have existed on this planet have left their mark in some form or another. The Macedonians are no exception and will be the subject of this series of articles. To properly reconstruct history, corroborating information from at least two sources must be obtained. One such source might be data collected from analyzing material finds like tombs, artifacts, relics and inscriptions, the type of information that can be derived from archeological research. Another source might be a body of literature derived from stories, legends, myths, folklore, poems, songs, etc. passed down from generation to generation.
Unfortunately, for obvious reasons upon which I will expand, the reconstruction of the Macedonian history has been neglected and as a result has not achieved the desired maturity to be considered adequate.

Throughout its history, the present-day territory of Macedonia has been a crossroads for both traders and conquerors moving between the European continent and Asia Minor. Each of these transiting powers left its mark upon the region, giving rise to a rich and varied cultural and historical tradition. The ancient territory of Macedon included, in addition to the areas of the present-day Macedonia, large parts of present-day northern Greece and southwestern Bulgaria. This ancient kingdom reached its height during the reign of Alexander III ("the Great"), who extended Macedon's influence over most of Asia Minor, the Levant, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, and even parts of India. After Alexander's death in 323 BC, the Macedon Empire gradually declined, until it was conquered in 168 BC and made a province by the Romans in 148 BC. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the territory of Macedonia fell under the control of the Byzantine Empire in the 6th and 7th centuries. It was during this period that large groups of Slavic people migrated to the Balkan region. The Serbs, Bulgarians, and Byzantines fought for control of Macedonia until the late 14th century, when the territory was conquered by the Ottoman Turks; it remained under Turkish rule until 1912. Throughout much of the Second World War, Bulgaria and Italy occupied Macedonia. Many people joined partisan movements during this time and succeeded in liberating the region in 1944. Following the war, Macedonia became one of the constituent republics of the new Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia under Marshall Tito. During this period, Macedonian culture and language flourished.

Egypt
As if determined to impress on every level, it doesn't miss a trick: from pharaonic monuments the pointed perfection of the Pyramids so iconic you can scarcely believe that they exist, to the enormous drifted voids and bizarre contortions of the Western Desert; from the dreamy progress of the Nile to the pinnacles of Islamic art; from biblical mountain tops from biblical mountain tops to temples that seem to have grown from the desert; from faded colonial elegance to crumbling Christian monasteries; and from long pale sand stretches of coast to the depths of the jewel coloured life of the Red Sea. Among all this natural and created splendour teems, the glorious tangled mayhem and intrigue of the everyday, from the voice of an Arabic diva to a shopkeeper's witty retort; from the pale flow of long robes to the fierce white of a felucca sail; from the wail of the muezzin (call to prayer) to the gurgle of a sheesha (water pipe) and from the jumble of the souqs to the meandering progress of a ferry at dusk.

India's history and culture is ancient and dynamic, spanning back to the beginning of human civilization. Beginning with a mysterious culture along the Indus River and in farming communities in the southern lands of India. The history of india is one puncuated by constant integration with migrating peoples and with the diverse cultures that surround India. Placed in the center of Asia, history in india is a crossroads of cultures from China to Europe, and the most significant Asian connection with the cultures of Africa. India's history is more than just a set of unique developments in a definable process; it is, in many ways, a microcosm of human history itself, a diversity of cultures all impinging on a great people and being reforged into new, syncretic forms. IndHistory.com brings you the india's history starting from ancient history of india to modern indian history. Shown below is the india timeline starting from 3000 BC of ancient indus valley civilization and harappa civilization to 1000 AD of Chola Dynasty of ancient history of india. Indian History in Short : The History of India begins with the birth of the Indus Valley Civilization in such sites as Mohenjo-Daro, Harappa, and Lothal, and the coming of the Aryans. These two phases are usually described as the pre-Vedic and Vedic perio ds. It is in the Vedic period that Hinduism first arose: this is the time to which the Vedas are dated.

d10 Core Roleplaying System Available on Amazon!
9:46 pm in d10 Core by Brian Share You heard it right!  The d10 Core Roleplaying System is now available on Amazon.com , the largest online bookseller.  You can purchase a copy of the finished product for $14.95 USD.  Check it out! The d10 Core Roleplaying System allows you to run any kind of game you want, simple, fast, and easy. This book is the 150-page core rulebook: it contains all of the core rules, charts and tables, character examples, and gameplay examples that you need to be up and running a pen and paper roleplaying game quickly and easily. Whereas other roleplaying systems have complex rules, complex mechanics, and strange dice requirements, the d10 Core system simplifies all of that and leaves you with what you need: a strong and stable core ruleset that is fast to learn and implement, a single die ruleset where all you need is a single d10 die, and straightforward mechanics that are streamlined and uniform throughout the system, keeping book referencing to a minimum. There are already two supplement settings in production at this time.  The first most likely to be released will be a timeless roleplaying game set in the secret world of vampires, and the material tracks the vampire experience from creation all the way into the modern times.  The second to be released is a zombie/post-apocalyptic setting, just because I love the setting so much!  More news to follow!

The History of Fingerprints
Updated 28 October 2010
Why Fingerprint Identification?
Fingerprints offer an infallible means of personal identification. That is the essential explanation for their having supplanted other methods of establishing the identities of criminals reluctant to admit previous arrests. The science of fingerprint Identification stands out among all other forensic sciences for many reasons, including the following:
  • Has served all governments worldwide during the past 100 years to provide accurate identification of criminals. No two fingerprints have ever been found alike in many billions of human and automated computer comparisons. Fingerprints are the very basis for criminal history foundation at every police agency on earth.
  • Established the first forensic professional organization, the International Association for Identification (IAI), in 1915.
  • Established the first professional certification program for forensic scientists, the IAI's Certified Latent Print Examiner program (in 1977), issuing certification to those meeting stringent criteria and revoking certification for serious errors such as erroneous identifications.

This gear system is very cool and not what you might expect from 2000 year old technology. It makes you wonder if the information behind its creation (gear ratio) was used spread out what other systems may have been created. instead, the uniqueness of it stands out because it did not trigger other paths in the use of gears. Highly developed cultures, including those of the Olmecs, Mayas, Toltecs, and Aztecs existed long before the Spanish conquest. The 1907 Catholic Encyclopedia wrote, "The chronology and historical documents of the Aztecs give us a more or less clear account of their history for eight centuries prior to the conquest, but these refer only to their own history and that of the tribes living in close proximity to them, little or nothing being said of the origin of the Otomies, Olenques, Cuitlatecos, and Michoacanos." "The last-named founded the city of Tenochtitlan, or Mexitli, in 1325, and gradually, overpowering the other tribes, extended their empire north as far as the Kingdom of Michoacan, and the domain of the savage Otomies, east to the Gulf, west to the Pacific, and south to Nicaragua. This was the extent of the Aztec empire at the time of the Spanish invasion in 1519." Hernando Cortes conquered Mexico during the period 1519-21 and founded a Spanish colony that lasted nearly 300 years. Independence from Spain was proclaimed by Father Miguel Hidalgo on September 16, 1810; this launched a war for independence. An 1821 treaty recognized Mexican independence from Spain and called for a constitutional monarchy. The planned monarchy failed; a republic was proclaimed in December 1822 and established in 1824.
