    Arbor Day Crafts
During any event, whether it is Arbor Day or any other, people prefer to indulge in doing things, they love. Arbor Day crafts are something, which many people, including kids love to do, while celebrating this day. Some people choose to do some other Arbor Day activities like singing Arbor day songs, reading Arbor day books, composing Arbor Day poems etc. This is the day, when we can plant some new trees and return something to nature, for providing us with so many wonderful gifts.
You do not have to spend a fortune, to let your kids do the Arbor Day crafts. There are some simple crafts, which can be done effortlessly. Kids might find it as bit tough, to accomplish, these crafts. So, they will really appreciate some help from you in this regard. As a parent, you must make sure that you get hold of all the things, which they will need for making the crafts. Some basic things like glue, colored pencils, marker, pen, pencil, cellotape, scissor etc will be required for most of the crafts. An easy Arbor Day craft is making a string of leaves. To make this craft, kids will need construction paper in various colors like green, yellow, red, orange, blue etc. Some of the other things that will be, required are glue, cellotape, stapler, string, scissor and crayons. To begin, draw the pattern of a leaf on the construction paper; cut it out with a scissor. Make sure that you leave a considerably big stem in the leaf, as you will hang that portion on the string.

National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April (but the date varies in some US states). This US holiday encourages tree planting and tree care. Arbor Day was begun by J. Sterling Morton (editor of the Nebraska City News) in Nebraska in 1872. The idea of a holiday celebrating the planting of trees for fruit, shelter, shade, beauty, soil conservation, and fuel soon spread to other US states. These crafts projects use materials found around the house, like egg cartons, cardboard, paper, boxes, string, crayons, paint, glue, etc. See a page about color mixing to see how to combine paint to make all the colors of the r a i n b o w Click on any of the crafts to go to the instructions. By Drea Christopher eHow Contributor updated: September 25, 2009 I want to do this! What's This? United States Secretary of Agriculture J. Sterling Morton created Arbor Day in 1872 as a way to improve Nebraska's appearance by planting additional trees. Celebrated annually on the last Friday of April, Arbor Day now serves as a national reminder to plant and care for trees. Help your kids discover the spirit of Arbor Day with themed crafts that focus on the annual event.
    Foliage Prints
  • Let the kids create leaf artwork to frame as seasonal wall decor. Gather an assortment of real leaves. Have the children press the foliage onto an ink pad or a paper plate coated with a thin layer of paint. Push the leaf onto a piece of paper, smoothing it carefully to produce a complete leaf impression. Repeat the process using different types of leaves and ink colors. If younger kids find it difficult to stamp with the delicate leaves, let them make impressions with washable paint and kitchen sponges cut into leaf shapes or leaf-shaped foam stamps sold at craft or scrap booking stores.
  • Decorated Pots
  • Organize Arbor Day crafts that the entire family can enjoy. Give each person a terracotta or plastic pot and an assortment of craft supplies like washable paints, pine cone stickers and self-adhesive foam shapes like flowers and leaves. Create colorful, customized designs on the pots. Once the artwork dries, plant tree saplings or plants inside the pots or use the containers to hold pencils, trinkets and souvenirs.
