This internet exhibition records the contributions of a pioneer Tucson family and features some of the abundant historical materials relating to Tucson's past, which are preserved for posterity in the Special Collections department at The University of Arizona Library This profound impact on Tucson's formation and growth from rural village to urban metropolis is richly documented in the Ronstadt Family Papers. Thanks to all book sale volunteers!
Comments Off By knoaker , October 25, 2010 Our second annual book sale happens at the Fall Festival the second weekend of October and is located just beyond the parking lot of the Community Center.  This year we were assisted in setting up by two dozen Patagonia High School students and Mr. Sweet, their teacher and football coach.  Students moved and unpacked multiple boxes of books, all in good spirits, and each was invited to choose a book, a small token of Friends’ appreciation for the volunteer service they performed. The fall sale this year took place over three days and once again we were well rewarded for the work.  Endless gratitude to our Patagonia High School senior class, Mr. Sweet, and all our loyal volunteers who continue to make our book sales possible and successful! USS Arizona "that terrible day"
The battleship Arizona served with pride and distinction in the U.S. Navy from 1916 until 1941. Among the many duties the ship performed was service with the British Grand Fleet at the end of World War I, taking President Hoover on a cruise of the Caribbean in 1931, providing aid after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake and serving as a location for the filming of the movie Here Comes the Navy . Tragically, the ship is familiar to most people because on December 7th, 1941 the USS Arizona was sunk during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor with the loss of over eleven hundred crew members. The purpose of this Web exhibit is to present the papers, photographs, and memorabilia of the USS Arizona held by the University of Arizona Library Special Collections . Many of these items are on exhibit at the USS Arizona memorial in the University of Arizona Student Union . We wish to give emphasis to those materials that are located at the University of Arizona and are not widely available via other sources.
