A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE DR. LOUIS DUPREE (Senate - May 02, 1989) [Page: S4649] Mr. HUMPHREY. Mr. President, I was saddened recently to learn of the death of Prof. Louis Dupree, of Duke University. Dr. Dupree was an anthropologist, an educator, and one of the foremost authorities on Afghanistan having spent many years there since his first visit in 1948. I want to take a few minutes today to discuss the life of this remarkable man. Dr. Dupree earned his bachelor's in 1949, his masters degree in 1953, and his Ph.D. in anthropology in 1955, all from Harvard University. While there he specialized in Asian archeology and ethnology. From 1959 to 1983, he was an associate with the American universities field staff, a cooperative research and teaching program of 11 institutions. He taught at Pennsylvania State from 1983 to 1985 when he became senior research associate of Islamic and Arabic Development Studies at Duke University. He also held teaching positions at Duke and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was an adviser on Afghanistan to the Governments of West Germany, France, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, England, and Australia. Sytuacja ta uległa zmianie, gdy konserwatorem starożytności rzymskich i bibliotekarzem Watykanu został w roku niemiecki ekspert z dziedziny antyku Johann Joachim Winckelmann . Jako osoba o wysokim stanowisku w Watykanie uzyskał dostęp do zbiorów eksponatów znalezionych w Pompejach i Herkulanum. Przeprowadził wiele prac wykopaliskowych, dzięki którym w

Odyssey educational tour guide Alison Betts. Picture: Pauline Webber Source: The Australian Scottish-born and raised Alison Betts is senior lecturer in West Asian archeology at the University of Sydney. She has worked on field projects in Syria and Jordan, specialising in prehistory and the archeology of nomadic pastoralists. Her interests include stone tools, rock art and graffiti, nomadic peoples and ethno-archeology. For the past decade, she has worked as a tour guide with Odyssey Travel. www.odysseytravel.com.au. Favourite food destination? I have found that culinary surprises can be found in unlikely places: luscious rich buffalo cream in northern Iraq (great with the local apricot jam); oysters in Belfast (something about the cold Atlantic water); wild garlic in Xinjiang; and wild asparagus from the Aspromonte region in southern Italy. But my best recommendation to fellow travellers would have to be the fruit in Uzbekistan. Across Central Asia from the Caspian to western China ancient varieties of fruit have been preserved. They are picked sun-ripened and burst with sweetness and flavour. Apricots, nectarines, peaches, plums, pears, apples, grapes, and of course mulberries from the trees whose leaves feed the silk worms along the famous Silk Roads. The vegetables too are delicious, especially the tomatoes, which make a beautiful pasta sauce with the local purple basil. Sadly, it is too far north for the olive tree.

Literary Agrigento Welcome History Doric temples Opening times and admission charges ... Escorted Sicily tours Salvatore Quasimodo Salvatore Quasimodo was born in Modica, near Ragusa, in 1901. He probably first became acquainted with Agrigento as a child when his father was a stationmaster in the nearby railway stations of Comitini Aragona-Caldare Gela, Acquaviva Platani
His childhood memories, re-lived with the emotions aroused by his classical readings and translations of Greek lyric poets, engendered two poems: Agrigentum Road (Strada di Agrigento) , included in his collection Nuove Poesie (1942), and Temple of Zeus at Agrigento , in the collection Il Falso e vero verde
In 1959, Quasimodo attended the cerimony for the transfer of Luigi Pirandello's ashes to his burial in the Kaos district. Eestikeelne versioon. Welcome ! The meteorite crater field in Kaali, Saaremaa, is the rarest natural monument in Estonia as well as the most impressive crater field of the whole Eurasia. The Kaali meteorite was the last giant meteorite that fell in a densely populated region of the world. Its fall on the inhabited island of Saaremaa evidently caused extensive damage and possibly also numerous victims, it has been compared with an explosion of a small nuclear bomb. The fall of the meteorite was historically remarkable as an event and for its influences on human culture. Besides that, a new landform emerged as the result of the explosion, well fit for a fortification, a watering place and a sacrificial site. The archaeological investigation in Kaali has confirmed the unique nature of the crater field in this respect Kaali Facts Research Geology ...
