An Overview of Once a Month Cooking What follows is a simple overview of once a month cooking. For a more complete explanation plus over 70 mom-tested (from our own Frugal Mom s!) once a month cooking recipes, got a copy of Once a month cooking The key to your freezer cooking success is in the planning. You must plan your time, plan your menu and plan your grocery list.  If you properly plan before you start you will be more efficient and save more money with once a month cooking. Here is a very general rule of thumb that I use for buying meat.  I try not to never pay more than $2.00 per pound for meat.  Of course there are special occasions that I will pay more but I try to use this number as a top end.  Boneless chicken breasts can often be found for under $2.00.  Whole chickens, drumsticks and thighs can be found for under $1.00 per pound.  For ground beef I try not to pay more than $1.50 per pound.  Pork and fish tend to be pricier but I still try to buy them for less than $2.00 a pound.  We usually do our meat shopping for once a month cooking at a warehouse clubs.  While these prices may sound low, by buying in bulk, you can buy meat at substantially less than at supermarket prices. I have a huge dry erase refrigerator magnet that is a calendar.  This is where I write down the meal we will be eating for each day of the month.  I bought it at an office supply store and it works really well for me because I can see at a glance exactly what I have planned for the day.  You can use a regular calendar or a sheet of paper to plan your meals.  I have put together different forms you may print out and use for your planning.

    97. Cook Review
A review of Acceptable Risk and Contagion, by Robin Cook.
    http://www.twbooks.co.uk/reviews/cook.html
    REVIEW
The medical thriller is a genre which has a large following and Robin Cook is certainly the leader in this field. In his books he chooses up to the minute medical issues on which to hang his plots . In Acceptable Risk the issue is the use of the new and controversial mood / personality -altering drugs. Kimberley Stewart is determined to delve into the past and discover more about her ancestor Elizabeth who was hanged as a witch in Salem in the seventeenth century. In her investigation she is accompanied by her new scientist boy friend, Edward Armstrong, who discovers a bacterial mould and sets about producing a drug which he thinks will be an even bigger hit than Prozac. He is willing to take, it seems, rather more than an "acceptable risk" in pursuit of the wealth that he believes this new drug will bring.
The story is a bit too "gothic" for me in its setting - present day Salem with all its connections with the witch trials - a gloomy, rambling castle, the disturbance of a grave , strange nightly happenings with morning appearances of overturned dustbins and corpses of mutilated animals. I was, however, interested in the 17th century documents which Kim finds and the wonderful names of the Puritan gentlemen who were communicating with each other about Elizabeth’s supposed status as a witch. And Cook’s main thread regarding the connection between witchcraft and the new drug is very clever. The eventual outcome of the investigation is totally unexpected and yet provides a plausible explanation for the sad fate of Elizabeth, the Salem Witch.

Announcing the Hot Pepper Search Engine
Ever since I can remember I have loved hot foods, especially chili and hot peppers. I think one passion lead to the other. I started growing peppers last year and this year am growing 3 different kinds (more on that later) in pots and in a garden.
I spend a fair amount of time researching things related to hot peppers - growing tips, storage instructions, recipes for hot peppers, how to over winter pepper plants, lights to use for growing peppers indoors, etc. I decided to create a custom hot pepper search engine to bookmark all of the pages and sites related to hot peppers that I find useful. There's so much junk out there it really helps to have a search tool that only looks in places I've had a chance to screen in advance.
If you need something related to hot peppers give my hot pepper search engine a try.
