Asthma
Asthma is a common disease of the respiratory system. It comes from the Greek word aazein, or sharp breath Allergens, common cold or even other triggers like exercise or stress can cause the airways or the tubes that carry air to the lungs. These become narrow and inflamed, with the build up of excessive mucous and breathing becomes a problem. A distinct wheeze can be heard during the entire cycle of respiration.
The asthma patient will be coughing and panting during inhalation with an uncomfortable tightening of the chest. It strikes patients more at night and in the morning, so sleeplessness is often a factor that adds to the discomfort. Some chronic asthma patients become hypersensitive to stimulants like strong smells, pollens or even pollutants.
Some of the other triggers of asthma are dust mites, cockroaches, and even some pathogens. Sleep apnea is said to be one of the factors causing asthma.
In some cases a patient taking bronchoconstrictor medicines, like beta-blockers or some hypertension medication, which could trigger severe breathing problems. In these cases, asthma attacks can be sudden and even life threatening. Today across the world, asthma has become the most prevalent disease.
The clinical conditions of asthma make it an easy to diagnose disease; however, one must understand that there is no cure for it. Modern medicine has ensured that there are many ways to control it. These cures are often used in conjunction with the ancient science of Yoga, especially pranayam or its highly evolved breathing practices.

        Asthma: Overview
Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease-sometimes worrisome and inconvenient-but a manageable condition. It is also known as reactive airway disease. With proper understanding, good medical care and monitoring, you can keep asthma under control. If you have asthma, you are not alone. In the United States, asthma affects 14 to 15 million people. Asthma, also known as reactive airway disease, is defined as a chronic lung condition with inflammation (swelling) of the airways, increased sensitivity of the airways to a variety of things that make asthma worse, and obstruction of airflow that is reversible. There are various type of asthma, including:
        Typical Changes in the Airway
        Inflammation
Recent research has shown that inflammation of the lining of the airways is the most common feature of asthma. When they are stimulated, certain cells lining the airways release chemical substances (mediators) that lead to inflammation. This causes the airway lining to swell and narrow. The inflammation may last for hours, days or weeks following an episode. Most people with asthma have some degree of inflammation all of the time. Some long-term control medications can help prevent and reduce inflammation.

What Are the Signs and Symptoms of Asthma?
    Common asthma symptoms include:
    • Coughing. Coughing from asthma is often worse at night or early in the morning, making it hard to sleep. Wheezing. Wheezing is a whistling or squeaky sound that occurs when you breathe. Chest tightness. This may feel like something is squeezing or sitting on your chest. Shortness of breath. Some people who have asthma say they can't catch their breath or they feel out of breath. You may feel like you can't get air out of your lungs.
Not all people who have asthma have these symptoms. Likewise, having these symptoms doesn't always mean that you have asthma. A lung function test , done along with a medical history (including type and frequency of your symptoms) and physical exam, is the best way to diagnose asthma for certain. The types of asthma symptoms you have, how often they occur, and how severe they are may vary over time. Sometimes your symptoms may just annoy you. Other times they may be troublesome enough to limit your daily routine. Severe symptoms can threaten your life. It's vital to treat symptoms when you first notice them so they don't become severe.

    Introduction Of Asthma
    • Asthma is the most common chronic condition of childhood. The prevalence and severity of childhood asthma have increased substantially in recent years. Despite continued research and the development of new pharmacological agents, it is one of the leading causes for emergency care requirements; one of the leading causes for missed school, and a cause for considerable morbidity, disability, and occasional mortality at all ages.
    Definition Of Asthma:
    Asthma
is a diffuse obstructive lung disease due to inflammation of the airways, increased mucus production, contraction of the bronchial smooth muscles, with hyperactivity of the airways to a variety of stimuli, a high degree of reversibility of the obstructive process which may occur either spontaneously or as a result of treatment.

      What Is Intrinsic Asthma
Comments Off Asthma is a health condition that affects the respiratory system especially the lungs. It can develop during childhood or even when a person reaches 20s or 30s. Development of asthma symptoms There are some people who develop asthma around the age of 30. This is termed as intrinsic asthma or sometimes known as nonallergic asthma. Intrinsic asthma is usually triggered by several factors such as exercise, air pollution, respiratory infections and inhaling chemical irritants. Until now, doctors have not pinpointed what are the origins of intrinsic asthma. It is very important for a sufferer of asthma to very well know more about the kind of asthma he is suffering. This would be a great help of getting the right medical treatment. However, people who have asthma might have intrinsic or extrinsic. For instance, a person who has extrinsic asthma might experience attacks when he has flu and yet it can be caused by intrinsic triggers too. Intrinsic asthma has similar characteristics to that of extrinsic asthma which is an obstruction and inflammation of the airway and its symptoms are not associated with any allergic reaction.
