The continent of Australia covers a massive area of 7,617,930 square kilometres, stretching wide between the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean in the Southern Hemisphere. Its land area is almost as large as the United States of America, minus Alaska, and almost twice the size of Europe, minus the former USSR.
Australia is south of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, with coordinates between latitudes 10° 41' south and 43° 38' south and between longitudes 113° 09' east and 153° 38' east.

Australia represents an island of 7 686 850 km². It's the biggest island in the world. This island / continent is surrounded by vast oceans and seas (Indian ocean, Pacific ocean, the Timor sea,.). Australia is the country wit the largest amount of beaches: 25 760 kilometres of coasts.
The Australian landscape
Australia is generally speaking a very flat country. The Victorian Alps however are an exception to the rule. It's in this area that you will find the ski resorts (state of Victoria). Between snow, red desert, white sand beaches.it'll be hard for you to choose.
Population
Sydney Melbourne , Brisbane et Perth are the biggest cities.

Goal: The students will locate Australia on a map. The students will name at least 5 cities of the nation and the states and territories of the country. The students will name and describe at least 4 geographic features of Australia. The students will complete an accurate map of Australia.
Lesson Design: The students will work in pairs for this lesson. Groups will be assigned to find the required information using books, encyclopedias, atlases, and CD-ROMS. All groups will be rotated through the stations which will hold those materials. The maps and worksheets will be completed by the pairs, one set per student. At the end of the survey period, the students will reconvene to see if their maps and worksheets are completed correctly.
Worksheet Sample Items:
List five cities found in Australia.
Name the states and territories of Australia and their capitals.
List and describe four physical features found in Australia.
