Renowned as one of the most talented and popular of the "Sixties Poets", Voznesensky was born in Moscow on 12 May 1933. At the precocious age of 14, Voznesensky dared to send some of his poetry to Boris Pasternak , who wrote back to the boy, "Your entry into literature is sudden and stormy. I am glad that I have lived to see it." Voznesensky graduated from the Moscow Architecture Institute in 1957 and began publishing serious poetry in 1958. There is so much fear and distate about ageing in popular culture, and such a strong focus on youth that it's easy to lose sight of the fact that for many people this is the best time of their lives. We are an ageing population and old age will happen to all of us lucky enough to live that long. I think we need to celebrate the pleasures and rewards of getting older and avoid getting caught up in the negativity. So I'll be writing about the joys, difficulties, rewards and challenges of ageing for as long as I can.
