Navigation light
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation search The winglet and red navigation light on the port (left) wing of a South African Airways Boeing 747-400 aircraft A navigation light is a colored source of illumination on an aircraft , spacecraft, or waterborne vessel , used to signal a craft's position, heading , and status. Commonly, their placement is mandated by international conventions or civil authorities. Navigation lighting systems include:
  • Right-of-way lights - On ships, aircraft and manned spacecraft, a red light will be mounted on the left or port side of the craft and a green on the right or starboard side. These help two craft on a collision course determine who has right-of-way: if a pilot sees a craft on a path crossing his own, he will see either its red running light or green running light. If he sees green, he is to the impinging craft's starboard and has the right of way. If the pilot sees the red light, he knows that the approaching craft has the right-of-way, and he is required to deviate from his course to avoid the collision.

Aviation/Navigation Calculators Navtronic 16 . Developed by Specialized Electronics Corporation (SEC) in 1977, it was an aviation calculator that incorporates 16 LEDs to denote the function calculated/displayed. A BRT/DIM switch was dimming the display for nighttime flying. Original price: Navtronic 1701 . Based on the earlier Navtronic 16, it incorporates the same 16 LEDs, but the LEDs are now protected on the keyboard panel. There were four versions manufactured each incorporating different features. Navtronic 1701t . Based on the Navtronic 1701, it incorporates count down/up timer with alarm, but no RNAV capabilities. Navtronic 1701r . Based on the Navtronic 1701, it incorporates RNAV capabilities, but no timer. Navtronic 1701tr . Based on the Navtronic 1701, it incorporates RNAV capabilities and a count down/up timer with alarm. Navtronic Navigator . Introduced on June 3, 1983, by Specialized Electronics along with the Explorer (below), it included basic navigation functions, such as: True Airspeed, Calibrated Airspeed, Density Altitude, Time to Climb, Distance to Climb and Rate of Climb calculation, Ground Speed calculation, Fuel requirement and Consumption Rate calculation, Weight and Balance calculations and Estimated Ground Speed and Heading calculation.

33. Three Forms Of Aviation Navigation
Aviation Navigation. There are three (3) forms of navigation available to pilots. These forms of navigation are Pilotage, Dead Reckoning, and Radio Navigation.

Helicopter Flight Information
Aviation Navigation
There are three (3) forms of navigation available to pilots. These forms of navigation are: Pilotage, Dead Reckoning, and Radio Navigation. A VFR pilot must use all means of navigation available to him or her, while an IFR pilot will use only radio navigation. Very little helicopter flying is accomplished under IFR technically, so helicopter pilots use all three forms of navigation, but most commonly pilotage and dead reckoning. Many piston helicopters do not have navigational instruments. Also, no piston helicopter can be certified for IFR flight. They do not have a system for backup instruments.
Pilotage
Pilotage is flight by ground reference. The pilot recognizes obstacles, cities, roads, and many other things known as "landmarks", and then most commonly these points of reference are used in conjunction with dead reckoning to ensure that the proper course has been established, and is properly being flown. When a pilot is in a familiar area, this may be the only means of navigation used. However when a pilot is flying to an area with which he or she is not familiar, pilotage should be the secondary means of navigation; that is second to dead reckoning.

There are three navigation modes in Teletype GPS Pro: Marine, Air, and Street. The following is a brief description of each.
Marine Navigation
Provides the most comprehensive set of navigation information for water travel. Each of the parameters shown in this panel are described in the Parameter List
The Marine Navigation will allow you to see Marine Raster or Marine Vector maps. For Marine Vectors maps, you will be able to view detailed information about locations of known ship wrecks, buoys, rocks underneath the ocean, ferry routes, and dockable areas. For more information on how to use this feature, go to your Marine Vector Manual ( Note: Add-On must be purchased separately for both Marine Raster and Vectors Maps).
Aviation Navigation
For use by pilots when flying. In order to use aviation, you must have purchased the aviation maps from Teletype GPS.
Street Navigation
Street Navigation is used when navigating a generated route. The street navigation has voice and visual prompts to tell you where to turn and displays to the user what points of interest are nearby.
To change the navigation, you can go to
