Bahrain Culture
The Bahraini culture is influenced by the Islamic principles. As per the principles of Islam, the Bahrainis offer their prayers five times a day, to the almighty.
During Ramadan, the holy period of fasting for the Muslims, they abstain from eating and drinking during daytime. They break their fast at sunset, with a feast consisting of dates and rice.Like most Islamic Arab countries, the dress code needs to conform to their culture. Nevertheless, Bahrainis in the urban areas are quite liberal as far as dress code is concerned. However, the tourists are expected to dressed decently, if not conservatively. The women should be covered from below the neck to the legs. The same dress code applies for the men.
Sports are an integral part of Bahraini culture. Football is the most common modern sport. Traditional sports like horse riding, falconry, hare and gazelle hunting are also popular with a section of Bahrainis.

Bahrain Culture As flashy and modern as central Manama may be, the basic rhythms of life in the island's many villages (and parts of Manama itself) remain remarkably traditional. Some local women, especially those in the rural areas, cover themselves from head to foot, adhering to religious customs. Those that consider themselves more modern do not, while others will wear only the headscarf, the hejab. A cosmopolitan community, Bahrain does not uphold strict dress codes on its people or their visitors. Traditional craftwork continues in several places around Bahrain: dhows (fishing boats) and built on the outskirts of Manama and Muharraq, cloth is woven at Bani Jamrah and pottery molded into vessels and planters at A'ali. Goldsmiths still operate in the Manama souk, where the demand for gold and magnificent designs stamped "Made in Bahrain" still flourishes. One of the mainstays of Bahraini culture is the drinking of traditional Arabian coffee. You won't go far without running into a shop selling coffeepots or a souk offering just that on each corner. Traditional Arabian street foods like shawarma (limb or chicken carved from a huge rotating spit and served in pita bread) and desserts such as baklava are also ubiquitous. Bahrain has a bonanza of Arabic, Indian, Pakistani, Thai and other Asian specialties. Five star hotels and independent restaurants offer a wide array of continental and international cuisine, amidst ambiences that rival any in the world.

A wide range of eating places that serve all kinds of food, which include American, Chinese, Indian, Arabic, European, Japanese, Lebanese and Mexican are easily found in Bahrain. Arabic food is mostly spicy and powerfully flavoured.
Lamb is the main meat with turkey, duck and chicken. Salad and dips are also general. Water, arak (grape spirit flavoured with aniseed) or beer are the most basic drinks. The sale of alcohol is not supported; however, it is OK in good restaurants, nightclubs and luxury hotels for non Muslims (but not during Ramadan). There is also strong Arabic coffee and tea broadly available.

    Bahrain's Delmon civilization
Bahrain, Culture, 5/21/1999 Archaeological excavations in Bahrain have started to unveil gradually the existence of an "unknown" civilization the island of Bahrain witnessed between 2500-1800 BC, which is actually the civilization of Delmon, the very historical name of Bahrain.
Chairman of the French expedition teams, Pierre Lumpar, said the people of Delmon used to build their tombs during their lifetime, adding that these tombs used to take the shapes of towers and the already discovered tombs in Bahrain are but the result of gradual collapse for these towers.
The French archaeologist added that excavation operations unearthed eight large cemeteries including between 170-200 tombs, a figure which amazed the European travellers in the 19th century who believed, at that time, that the island (Bahrain) was used as a collective grave since ancient times.
Lumpar, who is a researcher at the national center for scientific research in France, said, "If the people of Delmon were not digging tombs to bury their dead, this would had been eventually because the land is rocky."
