    Independence: August 15, 1971 (from the UK).
    Constitution: Approved and promulgated May 26, 1973; suspended on August 26, 1975; amended and approved by a national popular referendum again on February 14-15, 2001.
    Branches: Executive King (chief of state); Prime Minister (head of government); Council of Ministers (cabinet) is appointed by the King and headed by the Prime Minister.
    Legislative The bicameral parliament (al-Majlis al-Watani) consists of a 40-member elected House of Deputies and a 40-member Shura Council appointed by the King. Members of both chambers serve four-year terms. Judicial High Civil Appeals Court. The judiciary is independent with right of judicial review.

    The Kingdom of Bahrain is a borderless island country which is located in the Persian Gulf. It is the smallest Arab nation. Government of Bahrain takes place in a framework of a constitutional monarchy. In the constitutional monarchy Government of Bahrain , the king appoints an executive and a bi-cameral legislature with the Chamber of Deputies. The lower house of the legislature or the National Assembly of Bahrain is known as the Chamber of Deputies which have 40 members. All the deputies of the Chamber of Deputies are elected in single-seat constituencies by universal suffrage and the Shura Council and appointed directly by the Bahrain king. The upper house of the National Assembly is known as the Shura Council which also has 40 members appointed by the King of Bahrain. Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is the current executive of Bahrain government. The head of the Bahrain government is Prime Minister Khalifa bin Sulman Al Khalifa, and the
