It is limited to the north by the Niger River, natural boundary with the Republic of Niger, to the north-west by Burkina-Faso to the west by Togo, to the east by Nigeria and to the south by the Atlantic Ocean. This country of West Africa borders the Gulf of Guinea on 125 km, facing the Atlantic Ocean. The country offers a little rugged ground, mainly composed with plains and high plateaus of nearly 250 meters. The chain of the Atacora located north-west of the country at an altitude of 658 meters (culmination on Mount Sagbarao). The low coastal plain is marked by swamps, lakes and lagoons to the example of Lake Nokoué or the lagoon of Porto-Novo.
