  • Joining a bird club can be a great way to meet other bird lovers like yourself. zSB(3,3) Bird clubs and aviculture societies usually consist of members who are dedicated to promoting bird ownership, responsible breeding, and spreading education related to birds. Most of these organizations generally share the same purpose to further the science and study of birds, and to promote the preservation of bird species.
Bird clubs can come in several different forms. My club, the Heart of Tennessee Aviculture Society , is open to anyone who is committed to upholding the purpose of the society, and welcomes owners and breeders of all species. Other types of clubs include those specific to certain species and "breeders only" organizations.
Joining a bird club or aviculture society can be a very fun and educational experience. Most hold monthly meetings where you can meet with other members to discuss your pets, share refreshments, and exchange information related to pet bird care. Many also host annual or semi-annual

Bird Clubs of Virginia Twenty six years ago, in January, 1985, bird enthusiasts met in Hampton, Virginia to plan a state federation. The result of the meeting was the formation of Bird Clubs of Virginia, founder Dick Ivy's brainchild. Five months later, BCV hosted its first convention in Hampton, VA. Bird Clubs of Virginia's mission is to support avian research and education. Since 1987, BCV has been donating to worthwhile research projects. The fund, which receives donations from BCV's member clubs, its conventions and other sources, was established to honor Carole Wheeler and her efforts to promote both aviculture and research in Virginia and nationally. To date, over $58,000 has been awarded for avian research studies, education and conservation projects. Today BCV is comprised of five exotic bird clubs: Commonwealth Avicultural Society, National Capital Bird Club, Parrot Breeders Association of Virginia, Peninsula Caged Bird Society, and Southwest Virginia Bird Club. BCV is not a bird club and there are no members or fees. Each club sends directors to quarterly Board of Directors meetings. Bird Clubs of Virginia will continue to raise money and support worthwhile projects by holding its 26th Annual Convention in Fredericksburg, Virginia at the Fredericksburg Hospitality and Conference Center. The convention will feature nationally recognized speakers on behavior, avian medicine, breeding, and aviary management. In addition to providing information to experienced aviculturists and veterinarians, mini-seminars will be held to provide education to hobbyists and pet owners. BCV has always attempted to provide meaningful and affordable information to the entire spectrum of exotic bird owners.
