Summary
Conditionally named “Autumn tour”, it is usually realized at the end of the summer. Lying over two of the biggest migratory routes in Europe (Via Pontica and Via Aristotelis), the territory of Bulgaria is an important stop-over for many migrating and wandering birds during this season. The Black Sea coastal wetlands (lakes and lagoons) provide some of the best conditions for watching thousands of soaring migrants! Huge flocks, comprising hundreds and thousands White Storks, White Pelicans and Honey Buzzards could be seen per one day only along with many other birds of prey like Montagu’s Harriers, Black Kites, Short-toed Eagles, Levant Sparrowhawks etc. Additional tour will be performed through the Eastern Rodopi Mountains which is a breeding site of international importance for some of these species. The migration along Via Pontica flyway is a performance, attracting birdwatchers from all over the world each year! Be a part of it!

BIRDING
I first discovered birding when I was about nine years old and have since discovered that it's a hobby that can be pursued just about anywhere (except in Croydon, where there don't seem to be any birds at all). Most of my birding has been done in Thanet, mainly because that's where I live. Thanet is the extreme south-eastern corner of Britain, in the county of Kent. It's normally associated with the bucket'n'spade seaside resorts of Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs, but it's also very well-placed for migrating birds. This particular page is more or less dedicated to explaining the mysteries of birding to those unacquainted with it, but you can link from here to:
  • birding in Thanet my own personal life list . Pathetically short but I have no shame. A glossary of birders names for the birds. Occasionally creative, though more often tersely functional, crude, or downright pointless. birding in Porlock - notes on what you might see around this Somerset village on the edge of Exmoor. Not a lot, to be honest, but the scenery's nice.

Indonesia consists of thousands of islands and more than 1500 species of birds are recorded in the country. Many of these islands are of great biological value. There are hundreds of nature reserves. I will describe a few of these, starting with some on Java, Bali and Lombok. In 1994 my wife and I spent five weeks on these islands. The pressure on bird habitats here is very high and many species are rather scarce as a result of massive capture for the pet trade. But still many places are worth a birding visit.
