The change of the guard is complete. Long gone are the birds of summer; settled in are the birds of winter. Bird feeding gets busier with each passing cooler day. Especially in the the North, winter residents have adopted their routines for survival, starting each day with voracious early morning feedings to refuel the fat that was expended during longer, colder nights. Again in late afternoon, they feed heavily to fuel their furnaces for the long night ahead.

Brief description of some exotic birds. Good for searching for a specific bird.
http://www.denverzoo.org/animals/birds.asp
An animal class is made up of animals that are all alike in important ways. Scientists have grouped animals into classes to make it easier to study them. There are many different animal classes and every animal in the world belongs to one of them. The six most important classes are mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Birds - Although not all birds can fly, their basic design and main characteristics resolve around adaptations for flight. All birds are covered with feathers. Flighted birds have partially hollow bones that are lightweight but strong and a very efficient respiratory system. All birds hatch from eggs, have two wings and two feet and are warm-blooded (endothermic) vertebrates. Irruptive Winter Finches!
Black-capped Chickadees. Irruptions are not the same as migration. Migrating birds leave every year, and generally for the same wintering grounds, usually in Central and South America, where they remain until spring. Irruptive species don't travel to South America, but stay in the U.S. and Canada. Some winters they may not move at all from their wintering grounds, but during other winters they will travel great distances to follow a food source. During an irruption, these northern birds have been seen as far south as Texas. Irruptive birds are seed-eating birds and an irruption will occur when seed supplies in their wintering areas become scarce. Then the birds simultaneously take flight to a new location with more abundant food sources. At any given time in the winter
