B rain Trauma HURTS Forever
It can happen to anyone. It affects everyone
Each year, more than sixteen thousand Ontario residents sustain a traumatic brain injury; these injuries occur most often, as a result of motor vehicle collisions, work-related injury, or leisure activities. In many cases, the effects of the injury do not end at the hospital emergency room. They may result in permanent cognitive, physical, emotional-behavioural, and/or psychosocial deficits that will affect not only the individual, but his or her family, friends and community. People living with the effects of brain injury often find they need help dealing with the changes in their lives that such an injury brings. There have been reports of unauthorised persons contacting the public purporting to be acting on behalf of Brain Injury New Zealand or one of the Regional Associations.
The current hoax that has come to our attention appears to be targeting the Auckland area and has been asking for a sum of money to ‘send carers and people with a brain injury to a respite camp’. There is no such camp. We are unsure where these calls are coming from and this matter has been passed on to the police for investigation.
