Trust Purpose
The Coast Sustainability Trust II (CST) exists to help mitigate the negative effects of British Columbia provincial government land use decisions related to the Land and Resources Management Plan (LRMP) process, and the implementation of Ecosystem Based Management (EBM), on workers, contractors, First Nations and civic communities on the Central Coast, North Coast and the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii. Trust Description
The CST is made up of two separate trust accounts and two sub-trusts. The first is a Community Matching Fund Account . This fund is available to First Nations and civic communities in the Central Coast, North Coast and the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii (the CST area), and to Not-for-Profit entities that have written support from one or more First Nations or civic communities in the CST area. Applicants are generally required to match funding sought through the CST on at least a 1:1 basis. However, in order to assist communities and Not-for-Profit entities that have limited access to capital, the CST can provide up to 3:1 matching funds up to the first $50,000 of total project cost. Matching funds must be similar in nature to those provided through the CST. This requires that they be in the form of unencumbered cash contributions. Secured loans or in kind contributions, for instance, would not count as matching funds. The maximum CST funds that can be allocated to any single project is $250,000.

British Columbia government approves plan to treat raw sewage
The British Columbia government has approved a plan to treat for the first time millions of gallons of raw sewage that pours into marine waters between Vancouver Island and Washington state. By The Associated Press Related The British Columbia government has approved a plan to treat for the first time millions of gallons of raw sewage that pours into marine waters between Vancouver Island and Washington state. British Columbia's Environment Minister Barry Penner said in a statement Wednesday the plan to treat sewage from Victoria and its suburbs meets provincial requirements and will reduce contaminants. "It's an important step forward," Penner said Thursday. "There are still some people who would claim that sewage treatment is not necessary. They are vocal, but a minority." The region discharges about 34 million gallons of raw sewage into the Strait of Juan de Fuca each day, and the issue has been a sore point on both sides of the border.

Loans in British Columbia If you are a small business owner in British Columbia and need some financial assistance, there are numerous British Columbia programs of which you can take advantage.  Here is a look at some of the British Columbia loan programs that you may be able to use in order to obtain the money that you need to keep your business running. Aquaculture and Environment Research Fund This British Columbia program is designed to support research on environmental aspects related to aquaculture, particularly those that will allow for sustainable management and operational practices.  The program was created by the Science Council of British Columbia. Advanced Technology Innovation Fund This British Columbia fund is sponsored by Industry Canada and delivered by the BC Advanced Systems Institute.  It is designed to give support to companies in British Columbia for technology development in the computer technology, health informatics, and multimedia industries.  The support will provide up to 75% of eligible project costs, but not more than $100,000.  This money is then repaid through sales royalties.  British Columbia companies must prove the innovativeness of their project and be able to complete it within 18 months.

British Columbia Government Amendments to Regulations
The Government of British Columbia issued a news release www2.news.gov.bc.ca/news_releases_2009-2013/2010HSERV0015-000286.htm on March 19, 2010 announcing the introduction of a series of changes that it says “ will modernize the way in which British Columbians get their glasses and contact lenses and give them more choice ”. The province gave six weeks’ notice that effective May 1, 2010, changes will be made to the regulations for opticians and optometrists under the Health Professions Act. The Canadian Association of Optometrists opposes the amendments. We believe the health and safety of the public is at serious risk. We are asking the British Columbia government to reverse the implementation until such time as consultations have been held and a review of regulatory practices in other jurisdictions has been conducted. We encourage you to read the CAO Backgrounder and Position Statement and CAO Media Release (see below). Posted on 08/02/2007 11:17:19 PM PDT by monomaniac British Columbia Government Releases Overview of Controversial Pro-Gay School Curriculum VANCOUVER, BC, August 1, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A new course that defends homosexuality and teaches students about the evils of discrimination based on sexual orientation is being piloted in BC high schools this fall. The course, a draft overview of which was released today, is part of a comprehensive pro-gay revamp of the entire BC curriculum. In response to a case filed with the Human Rights Tribunal in 1999 by gay couple Murray and Peter Corren, the BC government decided last year to introduce new curricula from Kindergarten to Grade 12 that would be "inclusive" and homosexual-friendly. The pro-gay courses may become mandatory with provisions for barring parents from opting out or opting for an alternative course (see http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2006/jun/06060101.html Today, the BC Ministry of Education released the draft overview for the new Grade 12 Social Justice pilot course, which is the first course to come out of the agreement with Murray and Peter Corren. In Prescribed Learning Outcomes, students are required to recognize and analyze injustice in various areas, including, "sex, age, mental ability, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation." Students will also have to analyze specific examples of injustice that have occurred in Canada relating to protected minorities, including those with differing sexual orientations. This will include "discrimination, prejudice, stereotyping, oppressions, and/or hate crimes."
