On the vegetable front, sprouts, celeriac, celery, leek and parsnip are still available. Making an appearance this month are Jerusalem artichokes. Prepare the same as potatoes and roast for an unusual but tasty accompaniment to any roast dinner. A great soup to warm everyone up on November 5th is . It makes use of the best of root vegetables and is quick and easy to make. For some of you game will continue to be a highlight this month. Hare is particularly good as is duck, goose and venison. British Cooking Recipes: let's hear 'em...
Toad in the Hole, Yorkshire Pudding, Bubble and Squeak, Neeps and Tatties, Haggis, Gammon and Pineapple-I happen to love British Isles cooking, pub food, home cooking, you name it. The fact no small part of my ancestry [hence family recipes] is from the British Isles has to account for some of it-but I've been up in Scotland at a pub where the owner, with lovely bangers and mash to offer, apologized that they were behind the times and didn't have a McDonalds. Ouch! We assured them we vastly preferred what we had on our plates, and toasted them with a nice sip of Scotch. Permalink Reply By dragonfare on Jul 22, 2007 12:52PM

Search What's Cooking America Question: Please can you tell me where I can find a conversion chart for American quantities and the British equivalent. For example:
(1) How many ounces in a "stick" of butter
(2) the equivalent weights of "cups"
(3) I find all this very confusing when I read American cookery books Thank you. - Molly Walters (4/27/01)
Answers: 1 pound of butter = 4 sticks or 4 cubes of butter = 2 cups of butter. 1 stick or cube of butter = 1/2 cup = 8 tablespoons of butter. The charts below use standard U.S. measures following U.S. Government guideline. The charts offer equivalents for United States, metric, and Imperial (U.K.) measures. All conversions are approximate and most have been rounded up or down to the nearest whole number. Examples below: 1 teaspoon = 4.929 milliliters - rounded up to 5 milliliters 1 ounce = 28.349 grams, - rounded sown to 28 grams
