Drawing on a wide range of professional experience, software, and data, Proximity helps clients to more effectively use mapping, GIS, and related visual analyses in planning and decisionmaking applications. This section presents an overview of how geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping can be used to visually examine and analyze characteristics of schools and school districts in the State of California. Boundary files used to display these maps were developed by Proximity using the Census Bureau TIGER/Line files. The school and school district statistical data have been derived from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) (CCD) 1998-99 data files. The CCD data files provide data on all public schools and school districts in the US based on data reported by schools, districts, and states. CCD data used here were collected New York school districts by the California Department of Education. Proximity address-matched the school level file and added latitude-longitude coordinates to each school record (this process has been applied to all of the Nation's 94,000 public schools by Proximity). Use of the latitude-longitude coordinate enables the mapping software to superimpose the school locations on the maps.

The information and links on this page are provided for use by California's precollegiate educators in K-12 schools, districts, and other local educational agencies. With the increasing emphasis on school accountability, it has become necessary for MDTP to develop a written policy concerning the dissemination of MDTP test results. Dissemination Policy MDTP has 10 regional site offices on CSU and UC campuses. Each office is prepared to help teachers determine appropriate uses of MDTP testing materials and ways to interpret test results. Site offices fill and ship orders to schools, score returned answer sheets, and return printed results to schools. The following link provides contact information to email, write, or call regional MDTP site offices.

This settlement agreement and legal advisory spell out the legal responsibilities of a school district when a student requires administration of insulin during the school day.
NOTE:
On December 26, 2008, the Sacramento County Superior Court held that the portions of the Legal Advisory stating that trained unlicensed school personnel may administer insulin in the absence of a licensed nurse violate state law. The trial court's ruling did not affect that part of the Legal Advisory stating that such personnel may administer insulin in emergencies. The case is now on appeal, and the Court of Appeal has confirmed that the trial court's ruling is stayed until the appeal is finally resolved. The entire Legal Advisory therefore remains in effect. However, interested parties should check this Web site periodically for updates on the litigation and the status of the Legal Advisory.
EXHIBIT A
Pursuant to the recent Settlement Agreement in Case No. C-05-4077 MMC, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, the California Department of Education (CDE) has agreed to remind all California school districts and charter schools of the following important legal rights involving students with diabetes who have been determined to be eligible for services under either the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and related California law or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and related California law.

Ed Tech K-12 Voucher: Background
Background information for the Education Technology K-12 Voucher Program. The Education Technology K-12 Voucher Program resulted from the Settlement Agreement between California consumers and Microsoft Corporation in Microsoft Cases , J.C.C.P. No. 4106, Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco, Department 305. A separate fund (termed "cy pres fund") was established with 66 2/3 percent of the difference between the Face Value Amount of the Settlement ($1.1 billion) and the amount of issued Consumer Vouchers. The cy pres fund amount, in the form of vouchers, will be offered to eligible schools through a district grant process. Although the exact amount available for the cy pres fund will not be known at the time the request for application (RFA) is available, it is estimated to be substantial, and we expect that all schools that fit the guidelines set out below will be able to obtain benefits under the program. The cy pres amount will be in the form of 50 percent General Purpose Vouchers and 50 percent Specific Category Software Vouchers. The vouchers can be redeemed for a variety of goods and services, as described in the

ADVANCED HVAC SYSTEMS FOR IMPROVING INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AND ENERGY PERFORMANCE OF CALIFORNIA K-12 SCHOOLS Applications Guide for Off-the-Shelf Equipment for UVC Use
Prepared For:
California Energy Commission
Public Interest Energy Research Program
Prepared By:
Morton H. Blatt Objectives These guidelines provide a primer on ultraviolet lighting systems for coil cleaning for school facility decision makers, equipment specifiers and manufacturers. An introductory overview leads to a discussion of benefits and application considerations that shows when to consider installation of ultraviolet lighting systems. A discussion of equipment information, product offerings and recommendations is designed to assist school officials and specifiers in making a preliminary assessment of the equipment that could meet their needs. Information is also provided that might help manufacturers see how their product offerings might be viewed by other market participants. Summary These guidelines begin with an overview of indoor air quality, maintenance, and energy issues in K-12 schools, and how ultraviolet lighting systems can help address these issues. Case studies are presented that illustrate how ultraviolet lighting has worked in schools and other buildings around the country. System sizing, location and operation are discussed. The conditions favoring use of ultraviolet radiation for coil cleaning are then outlined. Equipment selection considerations, including manufacturer selection information, and product options are presented for ultraviolet lighting systems and for lamps, and ballasts.

Switching to 100% Post-Consumer Recycled Paper
One elementary school
Saves 78 trees
In one year
By switching to 100% post-consumer recycled paper
Based on the approximate paper use of an Elementary School with 590 students. Calculated at www.papercalculator.org
"But doesn’t using 100% post-consumer recycled paper cost more? Our school budget is maxed!”
If every school in the country switched to using 100% post-consumer recycled paper, the price would come down. Way down. -Recycling paper makes money. Recyclers are paying top dollar for paper and cans these days. -Reducing garbage saves money in garbage fees. -Using the unused sides of paper reduces paper use. Can your school make up for the additional expense of 100% post-consumer recycled paper by reducing paper use, reducing garbage expenses and making money from recycling?
