" African Canadian literature is a wonderful mixture of the words of those born here, and those who have come. Often it is about change, and acts as a bridge between "here" (Canada) and "there" (where one comes from). It is this marriage of diversities that gives the literature of African Canadians its energy." In the literature section of this site you will find the following resources on African-Canadian writers and their works:

Canadian Culture
I understand that a pierogi is not "Canadian" and in fact its origins come from the Ukrainians but when Canada has the third largest population of Ukrainians in the world would it not make sense that some of their cultures, traditions and food become part of our history as well?
When one small area of land such as Ile Royale is settled by the Irish, Scottish, French and English just in the 1700's alone is it insane to expect that we as Canadians have a widely diverse culture? Throughout hundreds of years Canada has been made home to many settlers of Asian, Italian, French, English, Native and Dutch decent, and this is just naming a small few of the many who have travelled here.
Many see the term Canadian culture as being quite hard to define, and without being able to define such a simple term it makes it somewhat impossible to pinpoint what things like Canadian cuisine truly are. We need to be able to come up with a proper definition of this term in order to be able to define who we are. What does it mean to be Canadian? Surely there is more to us then hockey and beer, there must be something that is unique to us.
I personally believe that if these many cultures who have settled in our great nation over a period of hundreds of years have not left an imprint upon us then something is drastically wrong. Of course they have, Ile Royale which now is known as Cape Breton Island is a perfect example. Hundreds of years after the Irish and Scottish settlers arrived on the land their culture is still strongly found throughout the Island. Celtic themes show themselves in song and dance daily, with musicians such as Ashley MacIssac, Aselin Debison, The Cottars and the Rankin's as proof of this. Even the East coast accent shows evidence of its history.

Early history of Quebec with a focus on the beliefs and values imported into a Canadian culture.

NEW FRANCE
QUEBEC CULTURAL ROOTS
My early European ancestors are primarily French into Quebec in 1633 (possibly earlier),
Scottish into Hudson Bay in 1789, and Scottish into Antigonish, Acadia about 1790's.
The Hudson Bay's Scottish history is included in the Metis view because
the Hudson Bay Company had little cultural impact in the Northwest until the early 1800's.
My interest in Quebec and Acadia culture drops off rapidly after 1790 when
the Garneau's make the North West their permanent home.
My focus, therefore, shifts to the Metis view of Canadian history. TRANSLATE:

About Canada

Alberta

British Columbia
... Outdoor Adventures Three outdoor adventures that can be found in Canada. The Fantastic Flight of the Silver Dart Author Linda Brand and illustrator Francois Gauvreau have successfully created an educational and historical tale that is actually fun for kids to read. It is a great way for children to learn about how aviation began and the role Canada played in it. Calgary Tower The Calgary Tower is definitely a popular tourist attraction but is it really worth the money? What you should know before hand to make your visit better. Da Ultimate Hookup Review It doesn't matter if you are tight on cash or your wallet is busting at its seams, who doesn't like free money? Seriously though, it can not be THIS easy to get it....can it? Cool Runnings Review A great family film that is packed full of quirky character's, great laughs and a triple douse of Canada. Youth Criminal Justice Act Moore has taken yet another touchy subject and hit it right on the head. It really does only take a little bit of time to make a world of difference.

For the students of Prof. W. Tim G. Richardson, Toronto, Canada
    This unit is used in
    MGT C46
    MGT C44 CCT 322
    MRK 200
Not all of the material in this unit will be used in each of these courses; the amount of material covered will be indicated by the actual lecture given in class by the professor. Some courses cover this topic extensively, some courses deal with it briefly. This is not intented to be a "complete" and detailed assessment of everthing about the Canadian cultural situation -
    • 1st - it can't be done, we have too many opinions about "what is a Canadian" 2nd - "what is Canadian" is something that is not fixed in time, but is constantly changing each year as new Canadians arrive and mix with the existing population 3rd location - if you are in Manitoba and Saskatchewan you will have a different opinion on "what is Canadian" from someone who lives at Morningside and Sheppard in Scarborough
For example: Asian immigration: in recent years past it has been Chinese from China (speaking Mandarin), then before that Chinese from Hong Kong (speaking Cantonese) - depending on whether you are 22 or 42, you may have a different opinion on Chinese culture in Canada.
