I developed an interest in creativity and spirituality while growing up in Ireland. As a young actor and writer, I began to explore Eastern mysticism, seeking answers to questions western orthodoxy was not addressing. Introduced to the work of the Christian seer Edgar Cayce , I found the material he provided to be highly informative, profound and practical and a source of much inspiration and guidance.
In subsequent studies and experiential learning at the Centre for Living Research, a metaphysical centre in Dublin, the emphasis was on Self knowledge and of the necessity of harmoniously integrating spirit, mind and body. As a result I learned that problems, issues and conflicts could be more easily and readily resolved through a consciousness raising process, which in turn resulted in personal growth. From another perspective, it provided the means by which one could express one's spirituality in a way that is balanced, applicable and relevant to everyday life. The transformational nature of this experiential work has been an influence in my life ever since. Coming to Canada in 1975, I became co-founder of a spiritually focused education/retreat centre in southern Ontario which offered programs related to holistic living, spirituality, natural health, organic gardening and environmental sustainability. This put me in direct contact with the

    Volume 20 Number 6
    1992 November
Join Janet Lunn, co-author of The Story of Canada, the first illustrated history of Canada for young people, as she and CM reviewer Brenda Reed discuss two mutual passionshistory and writing. Janet Lunn, co-author with Christopher Moore of the much anticipated Story of Canada, is a woman many librarians across Canada would be eager to meet. Teacher-librarians and teachers who have tried to integrate the teaching of information skills and Canadian history know how limited appropriate resources on Canada and Canadians can be in our school libraries. A search by a class of grade 7 students for information on, say, prominent women from Canada's past, may well begin and end at The Canadian (and Junior Canadian) Encyclopedia shelf. The Story of Canada is a book that every elementary and junior high teacher-librarian will want in his or her school's library collection because it serves to fill many current gaps and because the writing is so appropriate for its intended young audience. Teacher-librarians who hastily flip through the pages to look at the lists of books for "Further Suggested Reading," however, will be disappointed. There is no bibliography either of sources used or of related non-fiction (or fiction). Lunn says this was an editorial decision. But teacher-librarians will sigh to know that Lunn kept notes on everything she used, and from our conversation, it is clear that she is a wealth of information on useful sourcesparticularly material on Canadian women.

Thomas' and Curtis Brown's new book Manitoba Politics and Government: Issues, Institutions, Traditions is set to launch in Brandon on Latest Reviews On Winnipeg's Great War
"In this impressively researched and powerful book, Blanchard returns this era and its fatal passions to life by showing how the city of Winnipeg experienced and helped wage the Great War and how it was, in turn, changed by it. Making excellent use of contemporary newspaper articles, letters and other primary sources, Blanchard, a University of Manitoba librarian, does an admirable job of placing the reader in space and time, from the last carefree summer of 1914 to the mournful 1923 installation of the Winnipeg Soldiers' Relatives war memorial on the grounds of the Manitoba legislature."
