Colon Cancer Articles Colon Cancer:  General Info Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, is a form of malignancy that includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix.   Colon cancer is one of the commonest forms of cancer in the Western world; in fact, it is the third most common form of malignancy and the #2 leading cause of death among cancers in developed countries.
Colon Cancer: Informative Video Colorectal cancer is the cause of 655,000 deaths/year globally.  Apart from the role played by inherited genetic factors, and a few colon cancer cases developing in the unstable mucosa of ulcerative colitis, the most important factor in the development of colorectal cancer appears to be environmental.  This means diet.  Diet affects the bacterial levels of the large bowel.  Some bacterias can transform bile acids into carcinogens resulting in colon cancer.  A high-fibre, low-fat diet is always recommended.
Colon Cancer: General Info Subsequently, many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from adenomatous polyps (small, unexpected growth of the lining) in the colon. These mushroom-like growths are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time.

      Cancer: disease of civilisation
      Introduction
There are many conditions in Western industrialised societies today that were unheard of, or at least very rare, just a century ago. The same conditions are still unheard of in primitive peoples who do not have the 'benefits' of our knowledge. There is a very good reason for this: They eat what Nature intended; we don't. The diseases caused by our incorrect and unnatural diets are those featured on these pages.
      Part 1: Introduction
Unlike the prevention of many other diseases the prevention
of cancer requires no government help, and no extra money.

    Cancer: General Instructions
If your child has cancer, the following general information will help you care for him / her.
    Dental care
Check with your child's hematologist / oncologist before you take your child to the dentist.
    Medications
    • No medication should be given to your child unless it has been approved by the oncology care team. Do not continue your child's immunization program (baby shots) until your child's oncologist says you may. Ask whether your child should be in a household with a child who has received a live vaccine (varicella or MMR, measles-mumps-rubella) in the last 30 days.
    Safety tips
    • When your child's blood count (ANC) is low, avoid crowds or people who have active infections. Your child's care team will let you know when you need to take extra precautions to protect your child from infection. Take your child's temperature only when he / she seems sick, or unless otherwise instructed. Take the temperature by mouth or under the arm. Do not take rectal temperatures. Do not let your child drink hot or cold liquids before taking your child's temperature.

      Ovarian Cancer
Each year, about 22,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are often common and vague, which makes it difficult to diagnose. There are more than 30 different types of ovarian tumors, which are categorized according to the cell type. Some are benign (noncancerous) and do not spread beyond the ovary. Malignant (cancerous) tumors can spread to other parts of the body. Currently, there is no effective early detection method for ovarian cancer. It is usually diagnosed in advanced stages, and only about half of women survive longer than five years after diagnosis. For the 25% of ovarian cancers that are found early, the five-year survival rate is greater than 90%. Studies have shown that prognosis and survival depend largely on how much tumor is left at the time of initial surgery. Patients who have no remaining tumor or with nodules less than one centimeter in diameter have the best chance for cure and long-term survival.

      Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States. More than one million cases are diagnosed each year, and according to current estimates, 40% to 50% of Americans will have skin cancer at least once by the time they are age 65.
      Types of Skin Cancer
The two most common kinds of skin cancer: Basal cell carcinoma accounts for more than 90% of all skin cancers. It is a slow-growing cancer that seldom spreads to other parts of the body. However, if left untreated, it can spread to nearby areas and invade bone and other tissues under the skin. Squamous cell carcinoma is much less common than basal cell carcinoma. It can be more aggressive than basal cell carcinoma and is also more likely to grow deep below the skin and spread to distant parts of the body. These types of skin cancer are sometimes called nonmelanoma skin cancer. When they are found early, there is nearly a 100% chance for cure.

      Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer occurs when cells in the prostate (a gland in the male reproductive system found below the bladder in front of the rectum) grow and multiply uncontrollably, damaging surrounding tissue and interfering with the normal function of the prostate. The cells can then spread to other parts of the body. Mostly occurring in older men, prostate cancer is the most common form of male cancer, with approximately 186,320 new cases diagnosed in 2008. Your best chance for surviving prostate cancer is detecting it early. When found early, there is nearly a 100% chance for cure.Ā
      Symptoms
Men with prostate cancer may have one or more of these symptoms:Ā
      • Painful or burning urination Inability to urinate or difficulty in starting to urinate Frequent or urgent need to urinate Trouble emptying the bladder completely Blood in the urine or semen Continual pain in the lower back, pelvis or thighs
