      Culture
Cape Verdean culture is a true mix of European and African; an assimilation engendered during the Portuguese occupation. Nowadays, the traces of 400 years of Portuguese influence can still be found in architecture, lifestyle and the arts, but elements of African culture, be it in music, literature or arts, are omnipresent too.
      Music
Traditional music is very popular on the islands and an important part of everyday life. Its roots are in Portugal, Brazil and Africa with three main types of music; Funana, Morna and Coladera. These differ not only in content, but also in rhythm and melody.
Mindelo, on Sao Vicente, is the centre of traditional music on the islands and there are some excellent bars there with live music playing regularly. For more modern music, Praia on Santiago is the place to go with Cape Verdean pop music playing on numerous stages.

There are plenty of stereotypes about the French: they stink, women don't shave their underarms, they are rude, they hate Americans. Don't be fooled by these myths and urban legends. The truth is far more interesting. Here is some myth busting a la France with this list of top myths about France and the French people.
    The French are Rude
This is easily the biggest stereotype about the French, and the most inaccurate. The French are among the friendliest and most helpful people I've ever encountered. There are cultural differences, however, that lead some to believe the French are rude. The key is to understand the culture and learn at least some basic French terms before you go. A very little effort towards education and understanding will go a huge distance to getting friendly treatment from French people. More: How to Avoid the Rude French zSB(3,3)

    Cape Verde Culture
Cape Verde culture is best represented though its various forms of music and dance. The Morna, the Cape Verdean Fado, is widely popular, as is the Urban Kizomba. As for Cape Verde dances, they are also a mixture of both African and Portuguese movements. The Funana is a sensual dance that is the perfect example of this African-Portuguese blend. Another sensual dance, the coladeira, has more European influences. The Batuque dance, however, has more indigenous African roots. Literature also reflects the diversity found in Cape Verde culture. Cape Verde literature is very rich, especially in the Crioulo language of the Santiago and Sco Vicente islands. Because of the vast amounts of literature produced in these dialects, especially of the Santiago Crioulo, there is a movement that aims to make these languages the official language of Cape Verde instead of Portuguese. Language Although Portuguese is the official language and the language that is used in schools, most Cape Verdeans speak Cape Verdean Creole, which is a blend of Portuguese and African Languages. At present, Crioulo is being formalised as a written language, with the aim of it becoming an official language of Cape Verde along with Portuguese. Though there are some disagreements, since there is considerable variation between the Islands - especially between the Creole of Mindelo (the cultural Capital) and Santiago (the administrative Capital). Music and Dance Traditional Music in Cape Verde, like it's people, is a fusion of European, African and Latin influences. The most famous styles are the Morna and the Funana. Grammy Award-winning singer, Cesaria Evora, nicknamed "the Barefoot Diva", is without doubt the most famous exponent of the Mourna and, indeed, Cape Verde's most famous musician. Typical Instruments used in Cape Verde music include the Violin, the Ukulele-like Cavaquinho and the Accordion. The Iron Bar and Sea Shells are often used as percussion.
