Sports Law Careers: Sports Lawyer or Sports Agent?
1 Comment Posted by Dan Fitzgerald on July 16, 2009 Whether the inspiration is Leigh Steinberg, Drew Rosenhaus or Scott Boras, most young people are drawn to the sports industry with hopes of becoming the next great sports agent.  I was no different.  After law school, I investigated the path to becoming an NFL agent.  I read books, online materials, and spoke with both agents and lawyers for guidance on how to break into the sports industry, and what role would best suit me.  Ultimately, I determined that I was better suited to be a sports lawyer rather than a sports agent agent or sports lawyer ?  If you were initially attracted to the role of sports agent, a good place to start is to investigate the industry and job requirements.  Here is some suggested reading to begin your fact-finding mission: , a column on The National Football Post Two paths to becoming an agent Becoming an agent: part two Getting through the back door Next Question , by Drew and Jason Rosenhaus;

Johnson: Betting ruins careers, sports
Athletes risk their careers to make an extra buck
By Erica Johnson Wednesday, August 22, 2007 tweetmeme_source = 'TheKansan_News'; tweetmeme_service = 'bit.ly'; In today’s sports world, it seems as if it’s only about the money. Professional athletes in every major sport are signing contracts worth millions of dollars every year. Championships and the Hall of Fame don’t seem to be as important to athletes nowadays as how much money they are going to make that year. So why do professional athletes gamble when they have all this money to begin with? They are seen in the public eye throughout their career so everything is going to be discovered about their lives. Nevertheless, in our society, no one is ever satisfied with the amount of money he or she has — everyone always wants more. Recently Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has been accused of having dog fighting events in one of his homes. He pleaded guilty to these charges on Monday, and who knows whether he will play in the NFL ever again.
