Features of Cecil
Cecil is a purely object-oriented, type-safe, garbage-collected language intended to support rapid construction of high-quality, extensible software. Cecil includes the following features ( here are some resources):
  • Cecil has multimethods, which generalize singly dispatched receiver-oriented languages to allow dynamic dispatching on any subset of a method's arguments. Dispatched arguments are treated symmetrically, unlike Common Lisp where earlier arguments are more important than later arguments. Cecil has first-class lexically-nested anonymous functions, a la Smalltalk blocks, Scheme lambdas, and ML functions. Function values are heavily used in Cecil code for user-defined control structures, iterators, exception handlers, typecase-like constructs, and more. Cecil has both immutable (the default) and mutable versions of local, global, and instance variables (called fields in Cecil). Immutable variables support clearer, more understandable code. Initial values of variables are specified at the point of declaration, except that for fields initial values can be specified when the containing object is created. Cecil accesses both fields (instance variables) and methods via dynamically dispatched messages. Each field declaration implicitly generates a get and (if mutable) a set accessor method providing the sole means for reading and writing the field's contents. By accessing fields and methods uniformly, implementors can easily change between storing and computing some value w/o modifying clients, and methods can be overridden with fields and vice-versa.

    Cecil (programming language)
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation search Cecil is a pure object-oriented programming language that was developed by Craig Chambers at the University of Washington in 1992 to be part of the Vortex project there. Cecil has many similarities to other object-oriented programming languages, most notably Objective-C Modula-3 , and Self . The main goals of the project were extensibility, orthogonality, efficiency, and ease-of-use. The language supports multiple dispatch and multimethods, dynamic inheritance, and optional static type checking. Unlike most other OOP systems, Cecil allows subtyping and code inheritance to be used separately, allowing run-time or external extension of object classes or instances. Like Objective-C, all object services in Cecil are invoked by message passing, and the language supports run-time class identification. These features allow Cecil to support dynamic, exploratory programming styles. Parameterized types and methods (generics

    Review
Despite all of the hype surrounding it, the soundtrack to Jungle Fever is Stevie Wonder 's best work in years. Although it can't compare to Wonder's glory days, Jungle Fever is a considerable improvement from his bland late-'80s albums. Wonder still borders on saccharine on his ballads, although even the sappiest of them ("These Three Words") is never as sickening as "I Just Called to Say I Love You." While the keyboard funk of "Chemical Love," "Gotta Have You," and "Queen in the Black" doesn't sound new, it does sound alive, which is better than Wonder has sounded in years. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

    Talking Book
is an album by Stevie Wonder . Some fans claim that it is one of the best cross-over records of all time. On its release it helped to destroy the myth that artists were incapable of creating music that could be appreciated by rock audiences. Talking Book was released after Wonder toured with the Rolling Stones in , and became an immediate hit. The album marked a unique period for artists and especially Motown artists. Its cover depicts Wonder with manicured corn rows, Indian jewelry and a velvet afghan Sandwiched between the release of Music Of My Mind and Innervisions Talking Book saw Wonder enjoying more artistic freedom from Motown, taking over the production reins and playing most of the instruments . The album is sharply defined by Wonder's keyboard work, especially with the

What happened to Stevie Wonder ? The second-coolest blind piano-playing soul singer in rock history, he was also one of the smartest, most talented and engaging songwriters this side of John Lennon Ray Charles Smokey Robinson , Little Stevie Wonder came into his own. In a brilliant stretch from 1971 to 1976, he made six albums: Music Of My Mind Talking Book Innervisions , and Songs In The Key Of Life funk And then the former Steveland Morris started sucking. The 1980s were not kind to Stevie Wonder . He adopted the sated and bloated sound of his contemporaries, generating over-produced pablum. I suppose it was inevitable. Who among the giants of Sixties and Seventies rock Neil Young . Perhaps Lou Reed , though both of those men had to retreat into an angry shell to weather the decade. Woman in Red Talking Book Frank Sinatra to Ella Fitzgerald Songs In The Key Of Life . When Stevie sings a ballad, he absolutely means it, and we feel that.

Originally released on Tamla (T326). Digitally remastered by Kevin Reeves. INNERVISIONS is Stevie Wonder squarely in the middle of his early-'70s peak. Continuing his ongoing proof that popular music can have a social conscience, INNERVISIONS features some of Wonder's finest pop singles while dealing rigorously with spiritual and sociological issues. "Living For The City" is a detailed ghetto anthem along the lines of his friend Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)," while the wildly funky "Higher Ground" looks to reincarnation and salvation. Both cracked the Top 10 in 1973. The celestial thread continues through "Jesus Children Of America," which brings together Christianity and transcendental meditation, and "Visions," a delicate plea for peace and brotherhood that sounds like an homage to John Lennon's "Imagine" (released two years earlier). Successful in pretty much every wayit earned Wonder his first of two straight album-of-the-year Grammysabout the only question left by INNERVISIONS was, how to top it?
